Welcome @Hope0011.

I’m sure you will find plenty of support on here. Everyone has different stories and are willing to help others.

I understand the need for support at this time of year when everything shuts down but also Christmas being a stressful time for a lot of people and for different reasons.

Have a browse around and see what interests you. There is the Share a cuppa? where people just meet and chat.

Hi @Hope0011 and welcome to the forums👋. I’m so glad you’ve decided to help yourself out and connect with others whilst your supports aren’t available as it’s important to keep yourself connected to help with your mental health. The forums are a great place to be - very friendly and helpful - and there are lots of people who have great advice on many different topics relating to mental illnesses and other areas of interest such as sports and different hobbies like knitting, movies and animals for example. May I ask what things you’re interested in as this may help you to connect with other forum members in the community?

Once again, welcome and I hope to see you in the forums sometime soon.

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here 🙂

Thanks @Judi9877. a few things about me - I enjoy walking my 2 dogs, I listen to audio books, I am getting back into running, I have 2 cats and I like true crime Podcasts. I'm still working out how to navigate my way around here but it does feel very supportive and safe. Thanks again and have a great day.

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here 🙂

Good morning All, the following is an introduction to an article I wrote years ago.

PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY

There are environmental threats to people with disabilities who are unemployed or experiencing the need for occupation are psychosocial threats to those who are experiencing a mental illness episode. Some are disadvantaged with both disabilities. The solution is a major social shift that involves the arts. This program would generate enough funds to support its ongoing cost, with limited grants after an initial setup fund. Using the arts as employment participation and as a creative and constructive occupation for the disabled will be a great advantage and solve many problems with the extra benefit of lesser pressure on the public purse. Venues are already available in the majority of the majorities of communities. This program will smooth the integration of the disabled back into the community and will greater lessen the stigma of those people who are experiencing a mental illness episode and the stigma associated with other disabilities.

Regrettably, my printer is not working, I've typed the opening paragraph and can finish as time permits. I hope this is in keeping with the forum requirements.

Best wishes

BobP

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here 🙂

Hello @BobP

Thankyou for sharing your article.

I absolutely agree! It had not crossed my mind in terms of being a potential solution to provide employment opportunities to those with disabilities.

I am possibly over generalising, I think many people who share mental health diagnosis are likely very creative & are drawn to the arts.

It is hugely therapeutic too.

Could you please tag me in any future submissions of your article?

That way, I will get a notification, & won't miss your post.

Place an @ in front of my name. A drop down box will appear & you can click on members who you would like to tag.

@BobP 😊
