Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here 🙂

Hi. Thanks. I am married but my wife has mental health issues, so as much as she can and is supportive, its 50/50. 50 is and 50 isn't. Im worried she is going to get us kicked out of the rental we are in. The landlord's are not good, give us no rental rights and often turn up on and around the property say 3 times a week unexpectedly. So we live on edge each day wondering when or if they'll turn up. I tried to be nice and said hey how about the best for all of us we go by the residential Tennent rules. We will follow them, which we do anyway, and you guys too then we're all happy. They accused me of being abusive and threatening, told me no way they are doing that and threatened to evict us. Im sucking it up till we find another place but worry my wife on a bad day, which she did twice before, looses it and we're out. She is on meds but some days goes from my best friend to abusive.

Yesterday I really wanted a drink and was thinking of excuses to go and buy one, I kept telling myself I have to stop or I'll end up in an early grave.

Tomorrow will be a test when I go to our old town to see my Dr on my own. Typically id come home with a bottle of vodka and wipe myself out at night to cope. Its not coping, its hiding and sweeping things under a rug. Im working on going and returning empty handed.

Hi @ShiningStar ,

I believe the above message is for you from @JKK .

@JKK - Thank you for sharing. Being a tenant sounds so challenging and anxiety-provoking. Surely there are laws around randomly turning up at a rental property to 'spy' on your tenants? However, I wouldn't know. I hope you find another place (if that's what you are looking for).

And just a little hint: If you'd like to tag someone into your message, you can type "@" in front of their username so they get a notification. Like this @JKK .

I looking forward to hearing how you go with your appointment.

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here 🙂

Hi. Yes there are rules but they refuse to go by them. Trouble is we live rural. When lockdowns hit in Vic, thousands left Melbourne to escape, buying homes here and taking up the rental market. They could work from home. House prices went from say $250,000 to $350,000 -$450,000. Rents as well as almost vanishing, rose by over $100 to $150 a week. On top of that up to 100 people were applying for each home, many to get them offering above the rent price.

Supposed to be illegal but its still going on. The choices here are minimal, there are people living in tents and caravans on bush blocks and in the bush itself. The lockdowns destroyed it here in country Victoria. I check every day for somewhere else to live. We have a tarp on the bedroom floor to cover the gaps in the floorboards and stop the wind driving cold air and dust up through them. Its this at present or be homeless. Its a dirty dump.

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here 🙂

I'm so sorry to hear about all this @JKK - just seems so unfair.

It's not much better here in metro areas. The rental market is sky high. As they say, beggars can't be choosers - but surely, what the landlord is doing is so wrong - even by the moral compass.

I really hope you'll find a better option soon. Have you spoken to your wife about what you posted earlier and how you have to be careful at this moment?

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here 🙂

Hello!

So I'm not entirely sure how this forum works but just wanted to say hi 🙂

I'm hoping reading other people's experiences will help me feel less alone. I've been feeling quite lonely lately. I have looked for IRL support groups but the ones in my area have people that I already know, so it is hard to openly share things in front of them.

In terms of introducing myself, I have lots of hobbies. I like scrapbooking, dancing, watching YouTube, etc. I also really love linguistics, more than anything else. I think languages are all beautiful and the physical mechanics behind speech production is so cool. Its cool that our brains can do all that!! In terms of my personality, I am a bubbly person, even if I don't feel happy, and I love making people happy and making new friends.

I hope everyone is having a good day/night. Thank you for letting me introduce myself 🙂

Hi @QueerPenguin,

I was just floating past and saw your lovely post. Welcome to the Forums. My name is FloatingFeather and I am one of the peer support workers at SANE. You have found a safe and supportive community here with many people from a wide range of lived experiences. One of the good things about the Forums is that we are all anonymous so you are in a great space to share your story and your feelings without worrying about knowing anyone.

You have some really interesting hobbies! I agree with you about languages - I have a friend who can speak four different languages. It's beyond me how she doesn't get them all mixed up.

I really like your bubbly personality and positive nature. I also really like that you love to make others happy and make new friends - you sound like someone a lot of people would like to be friends with!

Just to get the ball rolling a bit I will tag a few names at the bottom of this post to help introduce you to some of our lovely community guides and peer workers.

On an aside, if you want to directly chat with someone on the Forums use the @ symbol and then start typing their name directly after it. A dropdown box should appear, and you then select their name. This ensures that they are notified of any posts you mention them in.

Keep posting and welcome again!

Hi there @QueerPenguin

Welcome to the forums! I'm a peer worker here at SANE. It's great to see new members come and join.

I love linguistics too. I did a few units of it during my studies and did a few units of Japanese. OMG it was so hard! I loved it but as we got further into verb conjugations I really started to struggle. I do find it so fascinating though how we develop language.

Anyway, I will look forward to seeing you around!

Warmest wishes

Hanami

Hi @JKK

Please don't feel alone. I get what you are saying. Sometimes it's hard to express myself due to depression but you are much supported. The pain you suffer the fear you get in reaching out makes it so hard. Please know you have much support on here. Thankyou for your honesty. I know how hard that feels.
