Struggling

Struggling

Struggling at the moment.

I'm experiencing a combination of depression and anxiety bringing up all sorts of negative memories. Mistakes I made and opportunities I failed to take up.

It's making me feel unwell, jittery, hopeless, painfully uncomfortable and unable to rest.

I'm not even sure I will post this but at least it gives me something to focus on in the moment.

I know other people have real problems. When I look at my life objectively I feel like a fraud. I'm weak and lazy.

Like why can't I just start doing something meaningful to relieve the anxiety?

Every little thing seems too hard, too much for me to handle.

I'm overwhelmed.

I have so many excuses to NOT participate in everyday life.

Yes I have diagnoses but I also receive ongoing treatment for them.

I should be doing better.

Re: Struggling

Thanks @Former-Member just typing it all out was a great relief.

I've decided to talk to my daughter about the way I'm feeling, rather than worry myself sick about it.

I am really looking forward to seeing her again after so long.

Take care,

Re: Struggling

Howdy @RedHorse the weather there sounds depressing.

It's good you've started a list... a to-do list (knowing what needs to be done) is halfway to achieving it IMHO. It's unfortunate if your daughter hasn't been aware of your situation, but COVID and other disruptions haven't helped. If you're packing, it might be an idea to stash absolute essentials in a carry-on bag given the state of the airlines atm. Have you got to town for your shopping yet?

One foot in front of the other my friend, I reckon you've got this, the niggles of self-doubt notwithstanding. Counting down the days!

Hello there @perspective, good to hear from you.

I'm just trying not to stress about my trip to see my beloved daughter. I'll be there in two weeks time 😊

I hope you and your doggo are keeping well.

Re: Struggling

Hi @Dimity, one step at a time is right. I have the to-do list and the desire and will get there I know.

I just wish I felt more excitement and less panic.

I've decided to talk to my daughter about my concerns. She knows I have been depressed, just not the extent of it. She is always very supportive and will put my mind at ease I'm sure.

I have bought the absolute necessities and arranged with my daughter to go op shopping for casual clothes etc soon after I arrive.

My main issues atm are lack of energy and struggling with self care. I wonder how I will I cope once I arrive in the city and doubt if I'm presentable.

Good advice about the airlines. I'm actually expecting my luggage to be lost, so if it's not that will be a bonus. I suppose I really shouldn't be so stressed about packing then should I?

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my post @Dimity

I hope you and Mr Cat are doing okay.

Take care,

Re: Struggling

Hi @RedHorse I'm glad you're able to connect with your daughter. You've been away from people for a long time so it's understandable you've lost some confidence.

Lack of energy can be down to so many things, but good nutrition, sleep and exercise can make a real difference. I was tested as prediabetic several months ago but focussing on those 3 things has largely turned it around and given me the bonus of being able to do a bit more. Self-care might be a particular challenge for you - I'd hate to be without my hot showers and a washing machine.

I'm needing to clean and organise - and wake up early enough - to get some repairs done. My anxiety and procrastination have been feeding into each other. Same with seeing my gp, who's chasing me up.

We muddle on.

Take care

Dimity

Re: Struggling

Hi @Dimity, I only managed to drag myself out of bed at about 2pm after several hours of laying awake. Unlike you I don't stay up late in the evening and usually get enough sleep to rise by 9am - which has been my goal to prepare for my trip. The last two days I've failed miserably but am going to try again tomorrow.

Of the three things you mention - nutrition, sleep and exercise - sleep is the only one I have got a handle on (I don't see my hiding in bed as a sleep issue). My GP has referred me to a nutritionist and a physio, both of which I told her I probably won't contact. She said to try. I do need to incorporate nutrition and exercise into my daily program. I'm glad you've had some positive results.

I hope you are able to push through your anxiety and break the procrastination cycle. A visit to your GP may be just what you need, particularly if you can start another MH Care Plan.

Thanks for your support and encouragement @Dimity, I wish you pleasant days.

Take care,

Re: Struggling

Oh dear, I have just had an overwhelming sense of dread wash over and grab a hold of me... if anyone is passing by and could sit with me for a moment I'd really appreciate it.
