Struggling

Struggling

Struggling at the moment.

I'm experiencing a combination of depression and anxiety bringing up all sorts of negative memories. Mistakes I made and opportunities I failed to take up.

It's making me feel unwell, jittery, hopeless, painfully uncomfortable and unable to rest.

I'm not even sure I will post this but at least it gives me something to focus on in the moment.

I know other people have real problems. When I look at my life objectively I feel like a fraud. I'm weak and lazy.

Like why can't I just start doing something meaningful to relieve the anxiety?

Every little thing seems too hard, too much for me to handle.

I'm overwhelmed.

I have so many excuses to NOT participate in everyday life.

Yes I have diagnoses but I also receive ongoing treatment for them.

I should be doing better.

Just knowing that others share my struggle is comforting @tyme @Shaz51

Truly I am not alone!

Re: Struggling

What do you ruminate about? I ruminate a lot mostly about the past. People say we must live in the present - that’s ok if you have a partner and family. If your alone history is your company.

Re: Struggling

I generally ruminate on the past @perspective be that recent, mid or long term.

I also get anxious about the future and engage in scenarios of what may happen, sometimes to the point of paralysis in the moment.

I really struggle with living in the present.

Re: Struggling

I'm struggling again and hope it will help me to put it down in words.

Looming is my appointment with the GP in town tomorrow, which I have just confirmed by text.

At the moment I'm not sure that I can get there, although I must to get my prescriptions renewed and to discuss a couple of physical symptoms I have been experiencing.

I also have to go in to make other appointments that I haven't managed to make by phone which is adding to my distress.

The past few days I have struggled just to get out of bed and dressed in the clothes I took off the night before.

I have spent most of the time crying on the couch experiencing feelings of hopelessness.

If worst comes to worst I will find something in my laundry basket to put on and just run a brush over my hair but I really want to be more functional and shower and dress appropriately.

I feel I need to take these basic steps for myself, even though my current living conditions make it difficult, especially when I'm in a depressive episode.

Thank goodness the appointment is after lunch tomorrow so I can face this trial in the morning before I go.

Please note that I am safe just very low.

I hope everyone is doing better than I am.

Re: Struggling

Hello @RedHorse I'm glad you're catching up with your gp tomorrow afternoon. I hope you have a good relationship with them and can talk about the support and meds you need. Being in town might be a chance for extra shopping and laundry too.

I've been ok-ish. Flat with occasional tears. I declined a dinner invitation (too anxious) but regret never catching up over coffee ór a walk. I've done some more decluttering of papers and magazines but need to catch up on cleaning. I've been sleeping 12 hours a day.

You and @perspective wrote about ruminating - I hate ruminating and being overwhelmed with hurtful memories so seek sensory inputs from (too much) screen time. I'm trying to accept history so rich tapestry and move on. My psychologist has always stressed goal setting rather than analysis - looking forward.

Good luck for tomorrow @RedHorse

Re: Struggling

Yes, I need to treat the trip into town as an opportunity to do more rather than as an unpleasant chore, thanks for that @Dimity

I do have a good relationship with my GP when she has time to listen. I often feel rushed through with just my scripts, but I'm determined to raise issues of concern to me at tomorrow's appointment.

Sorry to hear that you have been feeling flat and teary - it's a struggle isn't it?

Same with not feeling up to socialising with others and then feeling you have missed out on the social contact.

I hope you are still enjoying your class and perhaps feeling a bit more part of the group.

Well done on moving forward with your decluttering.

Take care,
RedHorse 🌹🐴

Re: Struggling

That’s it just include something in your trip that is pleasurable.

im a coffee freak and if I’m out I go to maccas drive thru and I order a caramel cappuccino with an extra shot of coffee extra hot. It’s pretty good
