Helpful ways to deal with irrational anger

Helpful ways to deal with irrational anger

Sometimes I become irrationally, completely over the top angry with everyone and everything. Think of an enraged super villain and their ideas of destruction and revenge - this is where my mind goes at times.

But I don't want to be that way. It's very disconnecting, being consumed by anger like that. And disconnection is a self-propagating problem to more anger.

So before it takes hold I like to remind myself of a couple of basic positive things that have happened that day, to take my mind off whatever triggered the anger. Today I got to work without getting wet from rain, and it was cool due to the cloud cover. It sucks that lunch time is still hours away, but I packed a pretty good lunch so that's something to look forward to.

Anyone else experience this, and how do you deal with it?

Thanks @Bunniekins that sounds hard too.

@Former-Member thanks, you have a good repertoire there of strategies. 👍

@AussieRecharger yeah rage is probably accurate. I just see rage as the top end of the anger spectrum. At the moment it's stuff related to poor/lack-of planning for obvious things that make me angry.

Yeah there's stuff about life that repeatedly bothers me, otherwise I wouldn't be on the forums I guess 😉

Hi,

I'm also a fan of the writing it down strategy and this may seem a bit extreme but if I want to get something out and really "get rid of it" I'll take what I've written and burn it.
