Tragedy

Tragedy

Today has been a very, very difficult day for the entire school community here in Tasmania. Inexplicably 5 beautiful children, celebrating their last day at Primary school, lost their lives in a tragic accident. Several more are still in a critical condition and there really are no words for what the families and community are going through.

At this time it puts a lot into perspective. Every day is a gift!

Re: Tragedy

@Zoe7 I am so, so sorry to hear how hard today is.

Anniversaries are hard enough let alone coping with this indescribable tragedy that sounds like it is very close to home for you.

I wish I had the words to make things feel even a little bit better. We are sitting with you here tonight just as you have done with so many of us over your time here

Take good care of yourself (and anyone reading this!)

Kind regards

Peregrinefalcon

Re: Tragedy

Really sorry for how this is impacting you @Zoe7 Tassie is my home state, where I was

born. I still have numerous family members there, some living in Devonport and I have very close friends who are teachers in tassie. It's such a horrible tragedy and there really are no words.

Re: Tragedy

I'm with you @Zoe7 .

Although I'm in Vic, my school community have also been impacted by the tragedy. Having just had our year 6 students graduate, this has really hit home.

Please take care and look after yourself at this time. Continue to reach out my dear friend.

I send my condolences,

BPDSurvivor

Re: Tragedy

Hi @Zoe7

I woke up early and I was thinking about you for a long time and wanted to wait until I felt okay about typing on my computer with both hands before I sent you a mesage - I am typing well - so that's good

I have tough dates around now as you do - and I was also thinking about your facing your own class tomorrow and wondering how on earth you would do this. I have done grief- counselling and know everyone is different and all your kids will ask questions - or not - which is harder still.

What do you lean on? - I have my faith - and if I was to get the chance to counsel anyone now I would ask what their's is because that is what we grow up with. Then I though that if it had been left to my mother I might not have had much background to lean on - kids today may not have a religious life at home so that makes it harder for anyone to help them

So - we all know that bad things happen to good people and these kids were in the wrong place at the wrong time and it was an unfortunate and tragic accident. All I could think of to say to children about this - to anyone actually is this

God does not expect us to suffer anything more than we are able and the children who died were taken into his care because they were so badly injured and there is no suffering in Heaven.

This is my honest belief. I really believed that my son and I had reached the end of the road for one of us when I swerved to avoid the collision in heavy traffic that permanently damaged my shoulder - I survived - I was able to go on - my son in his circumstances - couldn't and he has been at peace ever since

These children are at peace - I know it's really a hard thing to accept and to understand - that children can die - my aunt died when my mother was still a child and this was hard for me to accept as normal when I was growing up and these surviving children - all over your state - all over the country will find this hard to accept and understand

I wish so much I could be with you - to touch you and to pass my strength to you - to be with you when you speak to your class tomorrow and even speak for you

I have started to cry myself writing this post - it is a terrible thing to happen and I am here with you in my heart -

Sending all my love, experience and what I have learned

Re: Tragedy

Another one of these beautiful children died yesterday and two more are still fighting for their lives - it is just so heartbreaking.

@Owlunar Our last day was last Friday - one day after this accident. Like those children, our grade 6s had a fun day (as did the rest of our kids). I cannot at all get my head around how much that school and community would be affected by this - it has rocked the whole state and as you would know we are a pretty close knit group in the education system. I, like many others, have friends/colleagues in Devonport and have reached out to them 😥 There is both overwhelming sadness and numbness - and a very long road ahead. I too have reached out for support because it is too much. I need help to get through this because I am drowing myself.

I'm so sorry @Zoe7

There are really no words we can use to console those who are touched by the grief caused by such a tragedy - all we can do is share it and I am

Last Thursday it was my son's adoption anniversary - as the years pass it does get easier I admit however this year I felt it more hearing that so many young children had died. I understand

I wish I could hug you and let you weep on my broad shoulders - I am sending my sincere best thoughts and love

@Owlunar Whilst you cannot be here physically, the sentiment is enough My fur babies are my little security blankets right now and I am so grateful to have them both 🐶😺💖

I can imagine the anniversary for you would be tinged with a little extra sadness. I have been dealing with the anniversary of my Nan's death quite well over the last couple of years but this year it was really hard with everything else. Some days are just plain hard
