Something’s not right

Always the darkness

Always the darkness

Things must be bad. I’ve come back to this place that I left because it felt unsafe before, but where I had some very good friends who I cared about so much (and still do). Maybe it will be a short-lived experiment. Maybe I’ll have been completely forgotten anyway. To be honest, it feels like a bad idea. I know there are people here who have caused me harm. And I know some of the people I cared for deeply are no longer here. But some are still here and I’m sure there are loads of lovely new (to me) folk, too. I’m trying to be brave. I’m struggling and isolated and I know that having people to talk to who get it can really help. I know this can be a great place for connection.

A little about me: I’m bookish (still). My pronouns are she/her. I’m 42 years old. I’m human to an awesome 11-year-old rescue cat who is my whole world (I call her Edie on here). I’m more isolated and terrified than I have ever been. I’m a writer, a reader and an introvert. I’m queer. I’m disabled (and tired of fighting for access in an inaccessible world). I’d be lost without my iPod. I have more diagnoses than you can poke a stick at, but really it all comes back to complex trauma.

I’m posting this in ‘Something’s not right’ because: a) I’m the something; b) quite honestly, every day is a bad day for me; and c) maybe this is where I’ll live now. I’m not a ray of sunshine or glass-half-full but I’m kind, and I'm still breathing (albeit poorly) and that’s something, I guess.

But anyway, even without the nest and ocean dwellers, I’m here, getting my brave on and hoping to cross paths with some other dear old friends. *takes a deep breath* Let’s see how this goes.

Thanks for reading. 🌷

Re: Always the darkness

Thank you, @Zoe7. I don’t celebrate Christmas, but I hope you had a good day (or at least a not completely overwhelming day). I hope things are okay and that you’re doing as well as you can be. I’m sorry I haven’t been around. It’s a particularly hard time of year to be online. Sending love to you and Toby and Clover, plus some purry headbutts from Edie. 💚

Hey @still_bookish

Loved your photos and story of the silver eye family.

We had flocks of cockatoos flying back and forth over us during christmas lunch in the park.

Just saying hello to you and @Zoe7

Re: Always the darkness

I had a lovely, quiet day with family and fur babies @still_bookish There is just my Mum, Dad, sister and her partner so quite small. I did receive a lovely message from my sister's partner's sister - her son wants to come down from Vic to visit me. He is in his late teens now but we get on so well. He is generally very quiet and reserved but somehow when we get together he doesn't stop talking ...and is very funny. I too am very fond of him and would love him to visit. Last time he was here I took him for a driving lesson - and we were so long (because he couldn't reverse) that my Dad came looking for us thinking we had driven over the bank lol - we were both cracking up laughing as I had to reverse for him. He had never driven a manual so it was a big learning curve for him - but he did so well.

I am okay - still very tired but things should begin to settle down after this week and I can relax a bit more. Tomorrow I am helping my sister and her partner clear their block near the beach. With all 3 of us working it should not take long - then we may be able to go to the beach for a while. I will of course take Toby so he will love it - haven't taken him to the beach for a couple of years (since I have been back to work). ...but I am going to make a conscious effort to do that more over these holidays.

I am very grateful that you have reached out today Hon - here for you whenever I can be because you are wonderful and mean a lot to me. I know I have said it several times already but worth saying again - I am beyond happy to have you back 💖💖💖💖💖

Massive hugs for you and Edie cat from all of us here 🐶😺💖

Re: Always the darkness

Hi @Zoe7. Sorry for being so quiet. I’ve been meaning to log in and reply to you, but this place is A Lot for my brain. Once again, I haven’t been able to read back through any other posts so sorry if I comment or ask about something you’ve already talked about somewhere else.

I’m glad you had a nice Christmas. I hope your Victorian visitor makes it down. It sounds like you have a lovely relationship. Loved the driving lesson story! 😊

I hope you’ve had a chance to rest and relax after the big block clearing job. It was very kind of you to help. Did you and Toby make it to the beach?

I’m okayish. Well, I’m still here, anyway. It has been very hot here (almost 40) for many days and I haven’t been able to use the split system since February last year, so I have no air conditioning. (Love to be lifelong renter. 🙃) Aside from the heat, I’m really struggling with the whole pandemic mess. Over 14,000 new cases today in Victoria. My OCD and anxiety were bad before COVID, but now … I have no idea how I’ll ever be able to leave the house again. (Except I’ll have to because I can’t cope with deliveries or someone else picking my groceries, and I really just wish my brain didn’t make things a billion times harder than they need to be. 😔)

Sorry, I didn’t mean to get on here and sook.

Happy new year to you and Toby and Clover. May it be a year filled with all the very best things.

Thank you for being you. 💚
