Welcome and getting started

Hi all,

I am a 34 male, married with 3 kids. I am also a recovering alcholic/addict. Just over a year since I got sober and reunited with my family.

I'm kind of new to the idea of sharing my thoughts and feelings with others.

A long story short - I've been depressed for as long as i remember - say 10 or 11 years of age. Always had trouble sleeping, plagued by nightmares and anxiety dreams.

Once I got sober, I hoped the depression would ease, however without my preferred coping mechanisms it just got worse. I have been taking antidepressants for almost 1 year now and still struggling to cope with day to day life.

I am thinking of changing meds again but am not sure if anything is going to help. Ive tried psyche and aa and talking doesnt seem to help me. Also a diagnosis of mild aspergers and add.

Where do i go from here ...

"My wife says I live and think too much in my past. " What does she mean?

It sounds like where you are at at this point in time is excellent.. you sound like a great husband and a great dad. It might just mean you need to take some time out and explore what it is thats bothering you about the past. Are you guilty of your life when your brothers lives are still troubled?

I have "escaped".. My brothers who are all older than me and approaching their 50's are still living like there were in their 20's, except for life is catching up with them, such as health issues. I used to feel like it was my job to help them get to the next point in life.. but then I realised after a while that I can't make them and it's a choice they need to make. I can show them by leading a great life, but only they can make that choice. And for them to make that choice, they need to be vulnerable to all the stupid decisions they have made up unto this point.

I hope that all makes sense to you. Only by spending time with it and researching whats those feelings mean will you find the words to unlock it. If you keep trying to push them away and not trying to protect yourself from /feel unsafe by having them, will you define what it is that is really troubling you...
