The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Thanks @TAB

I did clear and clean my kitchen table last night. I am terrible at just dumping things there. It’s all clear still now.

Good job @Shaz51

Re: The magic of tidying

Today I took several bags of stuff to the opshop. It was nice to chat with the taxi driver - he remembered me from several years ago and jogged my memory.

I've got to get back to decluttering. I've been trying but nothing seems to spark joy. I'll have to press on regardless until I'm able to reimagine the space.

Re: The magic of tidying

The taxi driver remembered you @Dimity ! Was it your bags, or are you a very memorable person? 🙂

Hi everyone, I'm sitting here in my perfectly clean and tidy house, waiting for the 6-monthly rental inspection. (We will just ignore for now the 40 or so boxes sitting in my neighbour's shed!!) If it wasn't for the 6-monthly inspections, which I hate, goodness knows what my house would be like all the time.

After the inspcetion, I'm hoping to bring one box per week out of the shed to dispose of. Really nothing more can fit in my house, so if I want to keep something from the shed, I'll have to make room by getting rid of something already here.

Sadly, 40 boxes is most of a year's work 😞

Re: The magic of tidying

Amazing achievement @NatureLover getting ready for the inspection. The boxes sound daunting but you may surprise yourself. Another challenge will be resisting accumulating stuff to go into new boxes.

The taxi driver remembered my giving him a plant he'd admired, and a previous destination. I remembered those too but wouldn't have recognised him.

I haven't done my quantum of tidying yet today. Perhaps this evening.

Hope you felt better as the day progressed @TAB . Yes better hose off the pine pollen before it does damage, it's probably sticky.
