The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Hi @NatureLover thanks. most of the time back is okay. this thing of hurting while walking is only new. It usually means unaccustomed exercise, like sometimes I will have big increase or not enough rest time after last walk, time was talking about thing brief bike rides and just lying on weight bench and how angle of legs affects lower back. it wasnt fun. but I could do same walk today (likely will soon) and it will be fine, or nothing like that (touch wood)

Well, I finally managed to make a start on the shower and scrubbed the worst 2 walls. Going to try to scrub 2 more today.

Good work @NatureLover.

I need to mop and vacuum, do a wash and garden.

Then back to tidying.

I wonder how @Oaktree and @scruffypuffball are getting on.

Re: The magic of tidying

Thank you, @Dimity ...I did 2 more walls of the shower yesterday. Just one more wall and the shower floor and outside door to go.

How did you go with your chores yesterday? (Or maybe today...not sure what time you posted yesterday)

Re: The magic of tidying

I didn't get much housework done @NatureLover but hid a box in a cupboard. Not great.

Re: The magic of tidying

Sometimes I find freeing up floor space (by hiding boxes) inspires me to tidy further, @Dimity ...I hope that's the case for you.

@NatureLoverI've been chipping away for several days now, finding things to discard or donate. Maybe if I keep going I'll find things that "spark joy"... that would be nice. Or maybe I'll actually make a perceptible dint in the clutter. I think that maybe as I progress I don't see how far I've come.

I agree, especially if you are moving more things to work through into the spaces you've cleared.

Well done for chipping away at it. You seem to take boxes to the Opp Shop regularly...you are obviously making space in your house 🙂 👍

Good job @TAB

My kitchen table needs clearing again too. Need to clean it as well because we had fish and chips the other night and now it’s oily. Thanks for the inspo! I will get on with it now.
