The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

I think I'm the same with my pantry @Delicatessen . How many different sorts of dried legume do I really need?

I haven't often achieved the hour @TAB @NatureLover but I'm improving. I set a 30 min timer. Trying to go beyond my depression mindset of just the washing and washing up being enough.

I can so relate to this! And maybe if I set mysefl half an hour instead of an hour, that might be easier...then I can set myuself another half hour later.

Re: The magic of tidying

@NatureLover yes half hours suit me better too. I can lose track of time if I'm in the garden but have to push myself if I'm working inside.

I've done a first pass through my wardrobe culling clothes that don't fit. And I've reluctantly selected some more books to go. So I'll have a carload ready for Thursday's help with transport.

I spread some mulch but will have to deal with re-emerging blackberries before doing more.

Hello @Dimity I am trying to streamline my kitchen space. Spoke to @TAB and got a lazy susan for my herbs now so its freed up some space. My kitchen table looks better. Tossed out a couple of produce cardboard boxes and will wipe down the bench tomorrow. Last week I got tidying my room so everything is more ordered. I have to make some more surface aromatherapy spray which smells divine btw. Thats about all for today. Will have a grocery delivery this afternoon and shopping to put away. My house looks so much better! Am happy with my effort

Hello @Former-Member !

I got the carload of stuff to the opshop yesterday (success!) and got some herbs for the garden. Sage rosemary thyme oregano lavender. All related and can tolerate some dryness.

Indulged myself today with a haircut and a mango smoothie, a rare treat. A pause before having another look at the to-do list.

Well done @Former-Member . Our posts crossed.

I need to rethink my kitchen bench space. The lazy susan sounds like a good idea.

I have quite a few aromatherapy oils but they're getting old and viscous. Haven't used my electric diffuser in ages, I used to love it.

Aromatherapy essential oils keep well in the fridge @Dimity and they won't go viscous. I need to buy an emergency aromatherapy kit. I don't buy lots of oils just the ones that have multiple applications. I only get about 6 or 7 essential oils. I have the book The Fragrant Pharmacy and you can get away with only that amount of oils which can be used for just about anything!

I'm pleased you were able to offload stuff to the op-shop. I had a facebook friend who was a hoarder and he had difficulty living with it himself. I think it has something to do with an overactive root chakra. If you are able to heal, balance and open the root chakra the hoarding goes away.

I also noticed from him that he used to walk unprotected into all kinds of situations which may not have benefitted his safety or wellbeing which is tied to an overactive root chakra. I learned this information from a psychologist who worked with the chakras, has written books on it and has presented online courses on how to change your life with chakra awareness.

Sorry @TAB I don't follow?

@Former-Member I haven't bought much for years and have been gradually dealing with stuff. Interesting about the root chakra. It would be lovely to feel grounded secure and at peace with the world (thanks Google).
