The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Re: The magic of tidying

Hope the rain eases so you can get to the dump @Shaz51 . I've worked solidly for the last couple of days sorting stuff to go - maybe a trailer load or two. Some of the family are giving me a hand with it tomorrow.

When I can I've got to proofread 3 big spreadsheets and work through a long list of questions for an important family project but it's a long time since I've done anything like this.

I've been trying to work through things here and admit it's not easy but there's a family member in a much worse situation and I worry for her.

@Dimity Wow that is a serious family project. Good luck with it.

@TAB D&M Deep & Meaningful ... as opposed to light & frivolous ... aka fun. Ha ha naming crocs ... better in the water than on a feet. lol I was more suggesting that any who laid eyes on an unclad applebosom would fall over backwards ... and they would be line the streets ...

@Shaz51 Its never ending aint it. Hope you are doing well enough. We know you are a trooper.

I do not worry too much about it @EternalFlower

I do not like too clinical look in a home, but I know a lot of peep love the minimalist thing.

I think I am also learning to take up more space and use my space for me to do whatever I want, which I was very very slow to get the hang of. Also enjoying tidying up in the garden. For a long time it was all about getting it established.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Appleblossom @EternalFlower @TAB @Shaz51 @Eve7 @Delicatessen I once knew someone who was s complete minimalist... never kept a book after reading it... beautiful bare timber floors and sparse furniture. I've found myself with too much stuff and need to reinvent myself - rediscovering purpose for myself as well as my living space.

My back garden is now pristine after a family working bee today, wandering trad and blackberries all gone. I've ordered mulch and come Autumn will look to herbs and a mix of herbaceous perennials and indigenous ground covers under the framework of established trees and shrubs. A lavender hedge would be nice, I used to have one in the common area.
