The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

I tend to agree re recycling food grade plastic @TAB i used to work with polymers and there were lots of additives depending on the plastic - heavy metal die lubricants, fillers, solvents, cure accelerators, you name it. I try to avoid wrapped fruit and veg but almost everything else comes in at least a plastic bag. Tetrapaks and plastic bottles too, it's a worry and all adds up.

I've just dumped 2 large boxes of journals in the recycling so I have 2 empty boxes for sorting other stuff. Maybe that's progress.

Re: The magic of tidying

I emptied a couple boxes weeks ago @Dimity found out they were stackable inside each other as well, just depends which way around they are .. very tricky lol

anyway hot weather coming . My query about a solution to half my accomadation being airconditioned and the other half blocked off from it has been answered.

Either give them $2000 to install another cheap $700 no-name reverse cycle unit suplied and fitted by them or go jump in the lake basically thats pretty precious on a 50 year old unroadworthy van, I offered to buy a decent wall unit and have them fit it. Guy that is employed by them fell out of an aeroplane at 5000 ft and landed on his head the way he acts and seeing his workmanship, he did one himself in his own litlle castle hes made, stacked it on milk crates, serious misunderstanding of how to do things there lol. they come in a 'cassette' like a a car radio , take aircon out, fir casing properly, slide it in , and there is the guy who works at 'refurbishing' old site vans stacking his on 6 milk crates lol

anyhoo thats my bile outlet for the week. went to shops was sunny out, I appreciated it. slight chance of walk later on will have to tomorrow morning think

Re: The magic of tidying

so my point was , since they wont budge on aircon I might be moving again if its too unbearable here re tidying and lessening number of boxes etc @Dimity

Re: The magic of tidying

That's a bummer re a/c @TAB . I got quotes on a split system maybe a year ago and should really do something. The outside unit will have to go on the carport roof.

Hope you can get 4 walls and a roof if/when you do move again.

If the neighbours get their way and all the trees here get the chop it will be 10 degrees hotter.

It's possible it could be bearable if cools down enough to sleep will either move bed to a/c or get huge fan to try snd pull cooler air into hot area @Dimity yes trees important.
saw bubblewrap on Windows mentioned again may try that

Re: The magic of tidying

Fans are good @TAB I have a ceiling fan that makes a big difference on hot nights. Be careful about bubblewrap and foil on windows, I knew someone who got a visit from cops to check she wasn't doing anything illicit inside. I used to have a neighbour who ran a sprinkler on his roof.

Hopefully it won't be a hot summer here in the east if La Nina continues (just more floods).

Re: The magic of tidying

So very tired. Wheeled a trolleyload of stuff to opshop today. Have been trying to get help with the garden for 4 months. So much to be done inside and out.

Re: The magic of tidying

Hope you're going OK @TAB @Shaz51 @EternalFlower @RedHorse and all passing by.

Having help and support is making a difference. Today I investigated about 8 boxes... was surprised at some of my old craft intentions... have worked through 2 boxes of papers this evening, most headed for recycling, some for shredding. So much personal history but I'll let it go, I don't want to write a memoir.

@NatureLover hope you're going OK too.

So well done @Dimity reminds me of getting stuff from storage unit when I moved. There were a few 'why did I bring this' or why did I ever buy that? moments. Lots of perfectly good things went to rubbish, but had to as dont live in house anymore and cant pay to store it. So Way better off. 😅.
