The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Re: The magic of tidying

I'm probably churning rather than doing much decluttering, but sorting seems a good first step.

Re: The magic of tidying

I've been trying to go through old paperwork over the last couple of weeks. It's emotionally challenging.

Re: The magic of tidying

I've been meeting my daily goals for nearly 3 weeks but skipped yesterday and lost momentum. I'd made the clutter worse by tackling another stash of papers. Now it feels overwhelming again and I'll have to restart.

Keep at it @Dimity I've been going away a lot in last 6 weeks, but still sort of got things under control . Well inside house anyway. Yard overgrown. Got noxious weeds in some spots. Box thorn.if takes hold very hard to get rid of. Also got weeds growing in gutters lol

G'day @TAB Good to see you. Hope you're navigating TAFE teaching and cat keeping successfully.

Boxthorn would be challenging. I've had more than my fair share of blackberries but have had help with them. Can you say weeds are in remission?

Yep my papers conjure ghosts of my past. I'll persist.

Re: The magic of tidying

..weeds were in remission but it rained after and things went nuts again. going to have to get a whipper snipper, some marshmallows got 30mm diameter trunk, all woody lol

@Dimity yes, some parts lower/navigable , and have used 'straw' from weeds for trees

Re: The magic of tidying

@TAB Maybe look into AEU membership (in Vic it was NTEU) .

Just saw your pic of new cat on highlights thread. Very cute. I miss Tiger but won't replace him.

You might need a brush cutter not just a whipper snipper.

Re: The magic of tidying

Hi I'm total newbie to sane, been here about 2 months this is a area troublesome for me being declutter the clutter. I've 7 containers of craft supplies stored under my bed which I hope to start sorting through today and 1 big glory box full of fabric & odds and ends from sewing to macrame and bits already have 2 bags of to take to charity. Well this is the plan Stan for today
