The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Tuesday I donated a bag of fabric to someone who'll use it.

Tomorrow I'll donate about 7 boxes and bags full of cat stuff to a shelter. I'd had a big stash. I also threw away a lot of stuff like cat toys. I do miss my cat.

6 weeks ago I had the goal of clearing what I could before Easter. I didn't expect to lose my cat along the way, although I knew he was unwell. Despite packing 4 car boot loads and binning stuff the house looks worse than when I started as I've churned stuff and brought it into the livingroom.

Come Easter I think I won't have finished, I will have just begun - on consolidating the new habit of Dealing With It All.

Way to go @Dimity ! I want to acknowledge your achievement, especially since I know how hard things are right now.

Re: The magic of tidying

@NatureLover no, I can't have another cat. It's very lonely.

Today I donated 9 boxes and bags. A very big carload. The transport has been expensive.

As always, now the stuff is gone I feel overwhelmed by the stuff that remains.

I'd like to get some steam cleaning done but don't see how. I'll have to work towards it

Thanks @tyme yes it's not easy at present.

I'm taking one day at a time. So persevering.

@Dimity That is a real car load! Lucky recipients!

What have you kept for cat memories? I love my old pics. One is framed.

The tidying is always a work in progress. Easter will come and go, and yes you are very resilient and will do the best you can .. managing it all ...

Sorry to hear, @Dimity 😥

9 bags and boxes is a big achievement. I wish you could enjoy your achievement, you deserve it.

Re: The magic of tidying

Yes @Appleblossom @NatureLover it was a big load. The cat shelter owner was very grateful. I realise I still have the barely used cat bed under the coffee table.

The magic of tidying... letting things go, but thanking them for their service.

@Dimity

Sorry about the loss of your cat.

Also well done on getting some stuff out of the house.

I need to get busy before my daughter gets home on the 22nd. Her room became a dumping ground

Re: The magic of tidying

Thanks @Oaktree . He was a good cat.

I've been working hard today straightening things ready for steamcleaning tomorrow. I've done better than I expected. Of course it would be better if I had more clear floor space but the cleaning can't wait.
