The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

No @AuntGlow

my piles are still in bags. I also have about 6 large washing baskets where the clothes live.

@Oaktree I've had a washing basket full on the floor several days..I'll attend to it now, it won't take me long.

Unlike the piles of stuff in the corner of the livingroom.... I won't admit to how long they've been there... actually I don't remember but a verrrrry long time.

Re: The magic of tidying

Hi @Dimity and all,

I was going to check in this morning to let you all know what my cleaning plans are for this week, but I accidentally (on purpose?) ran out of time. I guess I wanted to let someone know my plans because that might have made me feel more accountable, but in the end that got too scary.

But I got home this arv, and even though it's stupid hot, I spent 15 minutes upstairs scrubbing the shower and kind of vacuuming. It doesn't look a lot different, but I've been putting it off for ages and it feels amazing to actually be attacking it.

Tomorrow - tidy downstairs and try to find my bench tops...

You did really well today @Chantarelle . I'm not sure sharing is just about accountability- it's also getting support and celebrating achievements.

Part of my mess is mounds of old craft projects. I had a look at some today. I'd rather try to get back to them than just dispose of them, but it will be slow. I'll take one to my craft group tomorrow. It's a latch hook kit. There was another project, a knitted scarf I finished before Xmas but I found a big hole in it probably a moth. I'll try to darn it sometime.

I am curious to know your updates around this? And even more so, I would like to know how your heart is today and if you need anything to feel supported? @Oaktree 🫶

Hey guys,

I just completed 20 minutes of cleaning. I tackled the kitchen bench and half the sink. I put things away, threw things away and cleaned the bench and one half of the sink. I am going to try and do just 20 minutes a day. I turned off the tv and turned on Spotify. Guess what? I feel proud of myself and it didn’t unalive me

Thanks @TAB

For years I have beaten myself up saying to myself that I was lazy. In reality I suffer from executive dysfunction.
