The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Re: The magic of tidying

Good morning @Dimity,

I am glad that the forums are able to offer you some support right now, especially with all you have going on. It sounds like your family stuff is very triggering at the moment. 😔

Is there one thing you can do for yourself today? Something really simple that might offer some grounding? 💛

@tyme @Dimity @AuntGlow

I moved into my current place almost 2 years ago.
prior to moving I hired a storage unit and had full intention of bring out of small number of boxes, fully dealing with their contents prior to bring next couple of boxes out.

i don’t iron (don’t even have iron and ironing board anymore), idea was clean laundry to go from dryer to being put away. Sounded good, doesn’t happen.

my laundry is in my garage and currently have 3 laundry baskets full plus another pile of things waiting to be put away. Garage has boxes that need to be sorted and decisions made what to do with the stuff. Can hardly move in my spare room due to boxes of things on the floor.

Nice to know I’m not the only person dealing with these things.

Hello @Former-Member lovely to see you. I've stopped tagging and posting on your Gardens thread as you asked. I acknowledge you said efforts to support you make you feel worse but maybe this little space can be a safe one. I'll try to avoid any more of my recent heavier comments here to keep it light.

I have boxes here at home and also elsewhere. Two years isn't long, you'll get to yours. Some of mine go back decades.

I have home help coming tomorrow so I must tidy what I can before they come.

Hi @AuntGlow thanks. Some mindful tidying might hit the spot!

@Dimity I said not to tag me when discussion is about plants, not the entire chat.

eg mention of the plants you have growing and/or planning to buy. I said I feel my words of concern and/or support for others on the forum are having negative impact of person I’ve been sending them to.

with there being silence on that chat I have been left wondering what else I’ve said wrong

Re: The magic of tidying

Hi @Dimity

I am so sorry to hear that you have been struggling of late. I am glad that you are still here. I love hearing from you! I just got home from a little trip and I have homework to do for Tafe but I simply must find time to put my house to rights. Stuff is everywhere because we had part of our ceiling replaced. We still have to paint it. Most of our things are temporarily stored in the front room. I need to paint the ceiling but I don’t think I’ll have time to do that until sometime in December. So unfortunately my house is going to be jumbled for some time. I can however pick up and sweep and mop the floor.

Hey @Dimity @Former-Member ,

I'm just reading back through the last few posts and have noticed that there was perhaps some misunderstanding?

We're here if there is anything we can do or feel free to email us at team@saneforums.org

Re: The magic of tidying

Hi @Oaktree I remember your getting ready for the ceiling work a while back. Glad it's up. You've been so busy this year.

Four months is a while. Even if it means moving stuff twice you might find yourselves needing to use stuff in the front room.

My spare room is storage. To be honest there's stuff in every room.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Oaktree @Former-Member @NatureLover @Shaz51 the start of a new month. Maybe a tidying month. My mood and activity tracker says I only decluttered 4 times last month. My bad. I guess that's once a week.

I have life admin paperwork to get on top of before I can do very much. The kitchen table is piled high and I have a bag of printouts (thankyou local library).
