The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Well done @Healandlove, that's a big step forward. I did a couple of hours' housework and gave the bathroom a cursory clean. Still trying to catch up and also had to fit in my walk and daily exercises.

@Dimity , that's awesome! Do you find it therapeutic? I do but getting started can be stressful. Once I am into it though it feels really good and once I am done it feels great! I wonder if we do release endorphins when we clean and de-clutter?

You are so good to do your exercises. I really need to get back into that too.

It's definitely a relief to get cleaning done @Healandlove . I find decluttering can be stressful but having the clutter is also stressful. It's complicated. It's been a while since I was successful - it would be lovely to to get those endorphins and maybe even rediscover some treasures.

I've been good re walking (endorphins again) but not so much exercises - my current ones are prescribed.

@NatureLover @Healandlove @Former-Member @Oaktree another 2 hours' housework today. I'm starting to catch up. In the last fortnight I've met my daily target on average every second day which might not sound good but is miles better than I've managed for a long time. It would be good to tidy and declutter enough to get the carpets steam cleaned. Ideally I'd like to take up the carpets but I'd need to clear the house.
