Something’s not right

Struggling and not being heard.

Struggling and not being heard.

I have another thread here that I started recently about ending the relationship I was in just recently.

I'm really struggling with the ex. She wants to get back together and I do not want to. All the reasons I ended it have not changed. I'd just be going back to the same thing and she just doesn't seem to get it. I've told her numerous times it is over and I do not want to be in a relationship with her or anyone else.

As usual it just goes unnoticed. It's like she tries to change my mind. I know she wasn't expecting me to end it. I know it came as a huge shock to her. I have explained all the reasons I ended it. I did that because it would give her insight instead of just leaving her dangling with no idea why I ended it.

I'm focusing on getting well .entallu and physically. I can't get well in going back to a relationship that made a huge contribution to my emotional, physical and mental wellbeing. My heart got completely smashed and I was betrayed by her.

I start therapy next week. I really need to talk about what I went through. My trust in the relationship was severed after the betrayal. When you don't have trust you have nothing.

She wants to get back together and I don't. She doesn't seem to be hearing that at all. I'm not sure what else to do now I don't see her at all or text/call her.

I just don't what I should do from here. My heart is still trying to heal and going back is not how I resolve my issues. I'd be going back to everything as it was. I don't think she is getting the message that I just need to do me and my life for a while without the pressure to get back together or commit to a relationship. I don't want to be in one and I'm not in a good space in myself or my life to be in a relationship right now. I just cannot go there.

How can I get this message through to her so they sink in. My heart is hurting everyday.

Re: Struggling and not being heard.

Hi @Owlunar

These days are seriously mysterious times. I had an epiphany today. Now only some thing make sense, a lot still doesn't. In the relationship I was in, I went through further spiritual awakening. It was very intense. She went through it too. I'm not so much focused on her right now, more myself. There were a lot of spiritual experiences that happened to both of us as a result of being in a relationship. Sadly, that was what also tore us both apart.

My point is though that it changed me having those experiences. It kick started something in me to really look at myself, my life, my beliefs, what was no longer serving me at all, my truth and who I really am. Now I can understand why I don't know myself very well anymore. It's like my life and me is under examination. That is the only way I can describe it. That is the spiritual side of things.

There is also another side though that yes absolutely there was abuse. That is definitely undeniable. There is also the fact that I truly was deeply in love with her. It was different to any other relationship I had ever had and so had never felt this entirely with anyone else. It's very difficult consolidating my individual spiritual experiences, the experiences we shared on a very deep soul level that we couldn't deny, the fact that it wasn't just deeply in love, I was in love with her soul and her and then there was the abuse.

I decided not to go ahead with the FVRO. Things fell apart yesterday with the DV support and the counsellor. I'm thankful for the help they gave me initially. I have decided not to go back. I had a session, first one with the trauma and DV counsellor yesterday afternoon. After the session I felt even worse than how I walked in. I definitely felt uncomfortable, very unsupported, a complete lack of any compassion, understanding, empathy nor validation and a complete dismissal and minimisation of things I was expressing. That was enough for me to say nope, not for me. I don't need more damage at all.

I also realised yesterday afternoon that mentally I am not fit for court. It took me a while to realise I'm not mentally fit for court. I feel strongly in my gut I made the right choice for my physical and mental health. I know very well in myself I could not have coped with court in my current state. I also had the DV support worker and counsellor drumming into me that I need to remember that the magistrate may not grant my application. That was what tipped over the edge to cancel my application. I couldn't take anymore. With my poor mental state and that being said to me numerous times I just thought this is not worth it. I bad no fight left. Just none. I didn't care anymore. I'm too tired.

I don't know how I feel towards her so I've stopped thinking so much now. I'm not well. I know I'm not. I'm just trying to get through each minute. I have a friend staying with me at the moment to help me out. It's my only friend I have. She is so good to me and I'm very blessed to have her.

Life is ever changing Dec. It doesn't matter what age you are, life changes. People don't always change when life changes, however life changes. I'm sure this memory had made you ponder. I'm sorry it didn't work out with you and your friend earlier on in your life. I hope you went in to make other friendships you treasure.

I actually watch a lot of crime shows and yes lived what I would say in the criminal world a bit when zi was younger. Seen some pretty dark things myself and being a crime doco can, Ive seen some things.

I was involved actually engaged to a woman who was in and out of prison. It's a tough life for the parent. She stuck by him though. Naturally I was her partner so made the best of it myself. It wasn't easy at times though, especially when he was out and would re-offend again. Really hard. On top of that you maintained going to Uni and graduated with honours. That shows one incredible person I believe.

Even though you are straight, I can tell you that if you got into a relationship with that friend back then, your relationship would have been just the same. She would have more than likely became even more controlling and demanding, possibly escalated into other behaviours as well.

Right now, I'm putting any major decisions on the shelf. I'm tired all of the time, and just trying to get through everyday. I have very little expectations of myself at the moment and it helps to lower my stress levels and pressure on me. I need to give myself this time and do what I need for me. I know it. I need some peace.

Cutting off from having any relationship with a family member has its own pain even if it is the action that needs to be taken. I don't judge. I've had to do it three times with family and it's excruciating and very hard to go through. I can empathise with you. Betrayal and lies can sometimes just be too hard to see past or get past for some people. I don't believe there is any wrong or right.

Sometimes enough is just enough huh.

Thanks for writing and yeah it took me a bit to reply as I didn't want to just write a few words in return.

Hope you bad a good day.

PF.

Re: Struggling and not being heard.

Hi everyone,

A mini update from me. I can't speak much. I wish I could express myself. I think I am out of the danger zone with said person now. Can't get to me anymore. In saying that, the damage to my mind is incredible. I appreciate advice that is offered, although I ask for none to be offered. I need to do recovery my way. I am trying to find a way to word the unnaceptable and insane behaviour of individuals into a coherent and understandable way for myself. Instead of using words such as psychopath, sociopath, anti social personality disorder and so on. I actually don't know at this point how to describe this at all. All I know is I want to find a way so that my brain can somehow put it into some sort of logic and knowledge instead of just saying a sick and twisted individual.

I don't know how I'm going to heal. Most of all though, I do not blame myself for what has happened to me. I feel anyone at all, race, age, sexual orientation, gender, highly successful or any every day person could be a victim. It's hard to call myself a victim. I still don't quite want to believe I am or was. I keep thinking I must be mistaken. Perhaps it us because I'm finding it hard to uncover truth and perhaps the truth is scary. To be honest I do believe I was brainwashed and I do believe the person was aware of what they were doing. I've only just come to this realisation.

Anyhow, just letting folk now where I'm at and that for now I'm struggling to talk. I'm just focusing on myself at the moment. Establishing a daily routine and doing some things to help me through this difficult time.

Channel your inner feisty @Powderfinger its most definitely there, everyone & everything is irritating you right now, because its all coming to the surface, everything that's happened has raised lots of questions for you, questions that may not have answers. Not that this is advice cos you said you don't want any but, yeah, just words 'n' that, Corny

Re: Struggling and not being heard.

@Corny

Not much to say. I've discovered I was with a true psychopath. It's too much right now. I know people will dismiss, think I'm lying, minimise, discount, not validate me nor very few will have the capacity to be able to support me. This is what I've experienced thus far. I have to be very selective of whom I choose to talk to. Thank you though.

Re: Struggling and not being heard.

Yes I would love to say that it gets better @Powderfinger but in terms of meeting people that get it, or you regularly feel 'seen, heard & understood'......I've never had that either and it hasn't improved since childhood. You may have a special one or two that understand, but as shocking as the abused and traumatised stats are; its still the vast minority. The vast majority of people make it through life free of these types of interpersonal crimes. I understand how it feels to have absolutely nothing left to give. And my guess would be that because it is a same sex relationship people probably don't take it as seriously if it was a male perpetrator....just more ignorance on top of ignorance.

I really lean on health professionals. It took a lot of effort to find good ones and persistence. Us traumatised people are a tough crowd. We shoot down therapists and other health supports very quickly if we assume or sense that they 'don't get it', and are likely to give up.This isn't fair of us. Who wants to live in a world where everyone has been traumatised and terrorised. I know my Psychiatrist, Clin-Psych, GP and mental health supports haven't had anything close to my experiences, they have all told me that. But I think what makes the difference with coming out of interpersonal trauma, is when you realise that they truly do care about me as a person, they are sincere and they are genuinely protective of me. I don't take that for granted and abuse that, I still respect personal boundaries even though my Psychiatrist has given me his mobile number and said I can call him anytime day or night, maybe that's why he did, he knew I would respect him.....he is still a person, and I don't want to wear him down. I am just one of his patients, he has many people to care for. But I know in my heart they genuinely really care about me, and I care about them..........this process has been very slow and arduous @Powderfinger , it didn't happen over night, it took me years & years & years & years. I really don't know how I came out of it and hung on by my fingernails for so long, but it can be done, and people have come before you. I hope that you have some family in your life or a couple of friends that you know you are really in their heart, and if your childhood foundations were a lot stronger than mine, you will be leagues and leagues ahead of the likes of me. You will be in with a great chance!

I was thinking about my father yesterday, little ways and behaviours that may have made people assume he was semi-normal and not abusive & incredibly narcissistic. He loved animals and people thought this meant that he had the capacity for empathy. He didn't in a sustainable way that wasn't a simulation, or faking it. Why he loved animals is because they are so utterly devoted to their owners, they don't talk back, they are obedient, submissive and thought he was king.....

anyways I know you are tired and over everyone and everything but I hope that you can find some health professionals or have 1 or 2 sibs or friends to connect with. The loneliness can eat you alive, its a very isolating thing to experience, but you can make it out the other side. Corny

@Corny

Thank you for writing this. It has given me some insight to myself. I will respond more later. I'm going to see my doctor this morning. Double appt. I'm very nervous. Yes, we are very difficult people to treat. I have Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I have had multiple traumas which started in my childhood. It's not all to do with my childhood, yet a big part of multiple trauma. I will respond more later.

Re: Struggling and not being heard.

I am sorry that your traumas started young @Powderfinger and persisted. As you have said yourself you have CPTSD and that can take a really long time to work through, to get to a point where we are able to cope with our baseline mental health. You haven't been exposed to one trauma, but repeated traumas, which changes the body.

There is never any pressure to reply to people or write on here. Sometimes it is healthy for us to be here, sometimes it isn't. You have a lot going on right now, take care Corny
