Sydney and surrounds Lockdown Thread

Sydney and surrounds Lockdown Thread

Hi forumites👋
I just thought I'd start a new thread to lend some support to forumites who may be experiencing lockdown in Sydney and surrounds. I'm from Melbourne and I've experienced being lockdown on many occasions so I'd like to use this thread as a way of supporting forum members who may be having a hard time right now.

I'd like to say the number 1 piece of advice I can give is to take care of yourself both mentally as well as physically.
Use this time to take it easy and do things you enjoy that might not be usually possible such as watching DVDs or catching up with Netflix and the like if that's your thing. There are plenty of great shows on those streaming devices so make the most of it. I know my housemate used the time to catch up on old episodes of All Saints and Blue Heelers as well as another friend in Perth watching the Orange Is The New Black series when they were in lockdown over there.

If the news of the numbers of people with COVID-19 is getting too much, switch off and do something else. I know that in the end, just hearing Daniel Andrews voice made me annoyed so I gradually learnt to stop listening by doing some knitting. Trust me, I knitted lots of beanies for charity by doing this!

There are other things that I did but this is for each of you to share your concerns and thoughts and experiences of what's going on for each of you so feel free to join in the discussion. Like I said, I'm in Melbourne and am only getting news from the media outlets and social media. I'm not living the lockdown in Sydney and surrounds so I can't comment on what it's like up there.

Please take care and stay strong. Lockdown is hard but it's not forever and you will get through this. I believe in each of you and know that it doesn't last.

Sorry to hear @MDT

I think this lockdown is a huge concern. I'm not doing particularly well at all.

Let's hope the numbers start to improve buddy so we can see some light 🤞🙏

Good luck today 🤞

Hi @StuF @Anastasia @MDT @Shaz51 @Bunniekins and all wonderful forumites here. Just popping in to say a friendly hello 👋 and to let you know I'm thinking of each of you in this tough period up there in NSW.

@StuF I heard the news of lockdown being extended. That's not great to hear. I remember down here in Victoria when Dan Andrews would come on each day and announce the figures that I was concerned about how long lockdown would last for as the rules always kept changing along with dates, times and restrictions/rules. I never knew what he was going to say or do next and that really scared me. Suffice to say, 2 weeks turned out to be 17 due to the way the government handled the situation and I've never forgotten it. All I can say is things will slowly improve once people start obeying rules and maybe, if the government follows Victoria's lead and shut down non-essential shops and move to click and collect only like we had to do and adapt to. I know that sounds harsh but if Melbourne can do it and survive, so can Sydney. Then again, that's just my opinion and I don't make the decisions for Sydney. I'm just a casual observer concerned about what is happening!

@Bunniekins 😂about the toilet rolls situation! Every time a lockdown happens here in Melbourne, that's the 1st thing to be wiped out at the supermarkets yet I'm still puzzled to work out why! The virus doesn't have diarrhoea as a symptom so I'm confused over the whole toilet paper thing. I think it was an overseas news headline that maybe started it with how countries were totally shutting down all shops including supermarkets so maybe that's how people have gotten the idea?

@Shaz51 thanks for the tea you put on! Much appreciated!

Take care forumites!

@Judi9877

Thanks for your thoughts!

I totally agree that we Need to shut down non-essential shops. I know that's hard(er) economically for the shops, but we really need to drastically limit the numbers of people moving around.

Hey all
Yeah another 2 weeks

It is what it is.

I am just working atm. Uni goes back on Monday. Thatll be interesting because it's gonna be even more intense in its structure - 5 weeks intensive.

I have started to read Game of Thrones. The second book. I watched the TV show but I hated that they ruined many characters. So I am hoping the books do it justice.

Tour de france is looking interesting. Tonight is the mountains again. I can do that while working on some stuff for my internship.

I'm quite sleepy atm as it's been a slog this week.

Onwards we go
