Power of Positivity

Power of Positivity

Hey fellow forumites!

I decided to start a new thread on the power of positivity. I have found in the past I tend to have days where the negativity in my head is so loud I tend to lose sight of what I like about being me. So this is a space where we can all come and list those things we like/love about ourselves anytime we want.

So basically list 5 or more positive things about yourself that you feel today. It can be things you like/love about yourself, things you like/love that you can do, or things you've discovered about yourself, but it has to be positive and relevant to you today, in this moment. It's essentially an exercise in positivity and mindfulness. Be as descriptive as you want.

I'll start us off.

1. I love my body. It carries me everywhere and can do amazing things, like run, swim, ride a bike, lift weights, walk to amazing places, play guitar, sing.

2. I love my sense of humour. I can see the humour an irony in almost anything and I love that my sense of humour keeps me grounded.

3. I love my mental strength. I've waged so many wars in my head, but my mental strength always comes out on top, it's a true warrior.

4. I love that I can write poetry. It has become such an important part of my recovery and I really enjoy it.

5. I love my heart. I'm a big softie and love to make people feel good about themselves.

6. I love my smile. 🙂

Okay, so I am going to tag in some people and hope you can all share it with your friends too.

Thanks for being you! Big hugs! xx

Hello @BlueBay

Yes it's a positive thread, which means that if you are not well and you let us know, then we can send lots of positive feelings, sentiments and thoughts your way. That's how it is positive.

Cheers

@HenryX

Re: Power of Positivity

Wow @bipolarbunny this thread has really taken off!

I have been a pessimist most of my life, but I know someone who changed from pessimism to optimism so it can be done!

Hi @Cin so glad the forum is useful for you. Me too... a Godsend, lifechanging is not overstating it.

Ok. Let's do it...

1. My eyes

2. My sense of humour

3. My deep compassion

It's a start!

Hi @BlueBay @HenryX @Shaz51 ... and everyone else who makes their way here.

Re: Power of Positivity

Hi @bipolarbunny, I too love that you are a tomboy at 52. A strong virtue to be kind and good to people when feeling wretched inside.

Hi @frog, I share your tendency to pessimism, but am currently taking some steps with my psychologist towards growing more optimism within myself. Me too on the forum being life changing. The humour and deep compassion you mentioned, a wonderful combination of personal qualities.

Hi @Olga, wonderful to rejoice over small achievements, me too. That's one thing that's helped me slow-walk my way out of my deepest depressions.

Related, I have a gratitude app that prompts me to take a minute or two every day to write something. Some days it's been just one word, others one sentence, or a couple of paragraphs. I find it another small way to celebrate good things about my life, even if they are very small. One of my gratitude entries was 'peanut butter'!

In case anyone reading is interested in this, it's a free/no-ads app for Android called Presently, very highly rated on Google Play store. It has inspirational quotes for every day and prompt questions to help when I run out of ideas of what to write.

Five positives about myself for today:

  • my sensitive musical appreciation of bird song (early morning chorus happening as I write)
  • playfulness
  • resourcefulness and creative thinking
  • being an essentially kind and caring person with good intentions
  • embracing exercise as a genuine pleasure over the past few months, and doing more of it.

Re: Power of Positivity

My positives for today are that, when feeling very low, I looked in and found that several of my fellow forumites had been thinking of me. Thank you to each of you. I hope things are going well for you. Stay well,@Shaz51. Stay happy.

I haven't been keeping up on everyone's news - so can I ask how the house is going?

Best wishes.
