Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

  • So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

Re: Walking for Wellness

You've done really well @Oaktree both for yourself and for the charity... I think you said it was BeyondBlue. I hope you feel like keeping on with the walking now.

I'm still walking every day but had to stop strength training for a fortnight. I'll start again tonight or tomorrow.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hello @Former-Member do you walk regularly?

@Dimity

thanks for the tag! this thread is motivating me to walk more. i used to walk everyday, in a nature track as it helped me calm/sleep. I now find myself walking a bit less, but still about 4 times per week.

Fan of the nature hikes for sure.

Re: Walking for Wellness

That's great @Former-Member . You're lucky to have found a nature track, it would be something to look forward to.

I've been walking just about every day for a while now. This thread helped me a lot in the early stages.

I hope you get to meet some of the others here like @Oaktree @TAB @hanami @Eve7 @tyme

Now I feel motivated to pick up my resistance band and do some exercises before dinner.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hey @Dimity , out of curiosity, do you have a specific place you go to which teaches what sort of resistance band exercises you can do?

I don't actually have a band, but I'm thinking to get one because I did use one during some exercise sessions and didn't realise how versatile they are!

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hi @tyme yes I printed off a set of exercises from British Heart Foundation. I bought my resistance bands from K-Mart and find my narrow thick loop works for all the exercises if I double it over for some. The separate set of 3 graded sashlike bands I haven't really used yet.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Ooo yes @Dimity - I think I have seen the British Heart Foundation links.

Thanks for reminding me.
