Re: Nervous breakdown

I would encourage you to reach out to the SANE team to sort out what has happened @Powderfinger Some times we break guidelines unintentionally and therefore posts are taken down - but you should have received an email notification highlighting what needed to be changed. As I don't know the circumstances - and do not need to - I can only advise that we all have our trigger points and we all have things we can and cannot deal with - this may have been the case here. It is often not personal and often also others are not in a position to respond for whatever reason. It can also take some a little time to get their own thoughts together. What is important for you now though is to know you are feeling heard, you are a valuable member of this community and you have support here.

I can appreciate in your present state that this has had a significant impact upon you so it really is important now that you look after yourself (yes easier said than done).Happy to listen and happy to help you work through this.

Re: Nervous breakdown

@Anastasia @Zoe7 @Powderfinger @saltandpepper My breakdown was kept private from my family, basically because I didn't trust them to have my back. But I did come out to my friends at the time and gradually I lost them all. Some didn't believe me, some thought they might "catch it" from me, some were so upset at my "selfishness" cause I could no longer be there to support them and they just left. And some just told me straight out they couldn't handle my drama anymore.
On top of an already excruciatingly painful and difficult time, this made things so much worse. But I came to realise over time it was they who weren't strong enough for me not the other way around. I also realise how self centred and shallow some of them were. I was always someone they could count on to use up and when I was no longer useful I was tossed aside like a dirty rag. I eventually made peace with it and moved on but it took a while.
@Anastasia signs & symptoms for me were I became very withdrawn and didn't want to mix with anyone. Still don't. I was very anxious and self conscious, complete lack of confidence, and I'd break into tears at the drop of a hat. Complete opposite of who I was. So I'd say the most obvious sign is behavioural changes. I never went to hospital, I didn't know what was happening to me, but I felt broken inside. I also lost all sense of my identity. That was 16 years ago and I'm still very much recovering.

Big hugs to you all xx

Re: Nervous breakdown

Absolutely agree with everything you have just written - could have written all that myself sadly. We do really find our own strength in the face of that abandonment and also find the real worth of those that have been around us thst choose to leave. It is not right nor wrong - some people just cannot handle supporting others and some are in-fact takers and not givers ....but we find our way, we live and learn and in that process I feel we also find ourselves. It is sad it can take a major life upheaval, breakdown or a sense of loneliness to achieve that but silver linings are often those that shine the brightest when we begin to come out the other side of the storm.

@bipolarbunny @Anastasia @Powderfinger @saltandpepper I think maybe this applies to all of us here - hugs and hugs and hugs

Re: Nervous breakdown

@Zoe7 I definitely agree about finding our own strength through that abandonment. I once told my therapist I spent over a decade waiting for someone to save me, then one day I realised I was that person, I was saving myself. We all have it in us and we are all definitely better, kinder, more compassionate people for having come out the other side. As much as my hard days still crush me, I wouldn't change a thing. xx

Re: Nervous breakdown

I can say I would change some things @bipolarbunny but the valuable lessons we learn along the way help to make us stronger ...it is just getting to that point that is so hard in the first place. So pleased you have gotten through so much and can feel your own strength now

@Anastasia Hon how are you tonight?
