Oh @AussieRecharger, if only yesterday could have lasted. I am in a total mess again and have tried everything to bring change to my life. No relationships in my life have ever lasted. I can't even figure out what I'm doing wrong. I thought I was a good person and had done my best for everyone - often despite themselves.
My ex-psychiatrist had promised me friendship - future social occasions - but revoked the offer after I had spent my treatment-life bringing myself up to his standards - self-respecting conduct, value for education, values in general, etc. It wasn't difficult. It was just a matter of reaching my potential which had been long ignored, and I was more than happy to take the journey. But he isolated me, making me withdraw from damaging relationships, promising me his, and his family and friends' company at a future time. I can't see that he could have done it any other way but I question constantly if I am just making excuses for him. My relationships were damaging and as my life was a mess, I had to sort it out before I could start anew. I was working for the re-establishment of my own and birth families. Perhaps he knew it would never happen - but if I don't fit anywhere, was isolation better than futile efforts to 'fit in'?
Now I have no family, no friends, no home, no financial security because I took his advice - I have nothing which can help me recover my future. And I have this stigma of psychiatric treatment from people who don't understand the abuse I have endured in my life. No-one of my age has this situation so I don't fit in anywhere. The more I try, the more others sense my desperation and pull away. The only people who would want my friendship are those who would take advantage of me.
Post-treatment I was to simply wait until he brought all the pieces together. It went on for 20 years and I just waited, studied, learned about life in general and got on with my life in isolation. I had bad health so it had been necessary to isolate myself to recover from overwhelming stress anyway. I have spent the last 18 months trying to decide if he did this on purpose or if he did his best, but failed. I still can't decide and I need to be certain. I lost the only friend I had so it also brought enormous bewilderment and grief.
I don't know what to do. I don't need 'therapy' - I need family, friends, people who care about me, a future - without which I have to resort to therapy to help me deal with the lack of them! That's just absurd. Going round in circles. I want to move on with a future.
A therapist can't help me any more than you can. An online counsellor told me that the people here aren't trained. I wish they could understand that people who actually have lived experience and genuine empathy are, to me, so much more helpful than those with book-learning on the subject and methodologies which indicate that they are just trying anything. Group therapy would be helpful but I can't find any.
So here I am, living in isolation after the last efforts to fit in with others failed yet again and wondering why I can't find my way out of this mess and prosper like others. What's wrong with me?
And now I've lumbered you with all of my problems. There's nothing you can do or say, is there? So I'll just say thanks for listening and responding to my cry for help.
I've tried to rebuild but I'm broken and without purpose. I've tried absolutely everything. No further treatment would work because I've worked through everything already and there is no advantage in simply continuing to do so. It's been dealt with already. I have to move on rather than further enrich, mostly incompetent, therapists and tread water. Money is hard come by and I need value for money when I spend it. We don't click with everyone and I can't keep going from one to another.
I simply don't know what to .
I hope things are going well for you, @AussieRecharger - some of us have to get a break! Take care.
