Memories

Memories

When I was in high school I often didn't pack a lunch. Partly laziness, partly nothing much there to eat. I'd chuck a couple of apples in my bag and a can of soft drink (which cost 50c back then) and then not eat the apples because bleh. But they were there if I got too hungry.

I was friends with a girl back then and she started noticing I didn't ever bring much food with me. She started out pretending like she wasn't going to eat all her lunch and share hers with me. Eventually she started just packing extra snacks--fruit buns I recall--for me to have. Wednesday's she'd buy her lunch from the canteen and she'd get me a hot chicken wrap. She mothered me a lot back then. She didn't have to, I didn't ask, no one told her to, she was just a really good person.

I think of her often, and I feel very grateful to her. She was always very kind and caring. I remember I started calling her "Mum" as a "joke". But it wasn't really. She took good care of me like mother's are meant to.

It makes me ache to think back on it now.

Re: Memories

Aw look at that @Anastasia you've done a good job with those kids. What a champion. Maybe one night a week your boys can take over the cooking for ya?

Re: Memories

Good advice to @Anastasia there @saltandpepper . What you said is probably true. @Anastasia you have been running on adrenalin for a long time. Now you are crashing emotionally. Because you can. Your boy has new supports in place, supports he is happy with. So the immediate pressure around keeping your boy safe and caring for his overall wellbeing, has subsided. You can now take a breath and concentrate on other things. The emergency levels of adrenaline has waned. Hence the crash now. Definitely time to do as much self care as you can for a while.

Agree with @saltandpepper ... open a can of soup and have it with a piece of fresh bread or toast. Or a can of spaghetti or baked beans, or some of those Sumin noodles. You must have something easy but nourishing in your cupboards, or freezer.

I have resorted to a frozen dinner tonight myself. A nice one though. Its a meal I had left over from a batch a lovely friend of mine gave me just after my husband died. Home cooked meals packaged frozen and delivered to my door. Such a thoughtful gift it was. So I have Thai chicken curry and rice for my dinner.

Busy day here. Had my flu vac at my Doctors this morning. Bit sore at injection site, but no big deal.

Hubbys ute has been collected and the money should be in the bank in a couple of days. Funds are timely, because sadly my PC computer is terminal. New tower thingy needed .. $799 I hadnt budgeted for. The technician is hopeful he can salvage everything from the hard drive, except any programs. Hopefully find out tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Made appt at the vet for Holly on Wednesday. She is due for her annual vacs plus I need to discuss her continuing breathing difficulties.

@saltandpepper you asked if Holly enjoys the 3 acres. Yes she does. And enjoys getting to brothers farm too, when I manage to get there. Holly has been a great little rabbiter. Fresh caught rabbit her favourite dinner. Not so much now though ... a lack of hearing puts her at a distinct disadvantage. Poor baby. 🐶

Well done @Anastasia for managing to complete the "must do" work. The important stuff ticked off. 👍 I am a list person too. And it drives me crazy not being able to tick off stuff. Not having my PC means there are things building up that I cant do. Makes me anxious.

Oh well .. at least I have a nice dinner heating up. Catch you guys later maybe.

Thanks @saltandpepper

How's your day?

Re: Memories

@Emelia8 Ask the tech guy if he can do the tower cheaper, usually some wiggle room there. Good thing is you probably won't need to replace the tower for years and years. Can also upgrade parts (instead of buying a new one) as needed down the road.

@Emelia8 do you know the person that bought the ute?

You've had a big day, time to sit back with that yum dinner and rest. You're doing so well managing everything and staying on top of it all 👍

Re: Memories

Thanks for the advice about cost of new PC tower @saltandpepper .

I will try.

No I dont know the buyer of the ute. I did a deal with local Ford Dealer. Trade in husbands 8yo Ranger ute and my 10yo Territory on a new Ford Escape mid size SUV. Wont be in for maybe 6-8 months, so got Territory until then. Deal to stand. I know I could have got maybe $5K more for each if sold privately. But I dont need the hassle. Happy to have ute gone, as it was sitting in the shed deteriorating from lack of use. I have no doubt the dealer will make a quick profit out of it. Utes are selling very well, probably coz cant get new cars due to manufacturing slowdowns and delays.

Re: Memories

I hear you @Emelia8 I don't like the hassle of anything ever really, and that's just on a regular day. Rather trade in and not have to deal with it either.

And you've got all the papers drawn up for the trade in, signed and everything? Why didn't the bastard give you the money before taking the ute?

Re: Memories

Yes contracts all signed @saltandpepper 😄

Money trfd electronically, but takes two days to come through.

I trust him. He's a used car (and new) salesman after all. 😜 He is the sales manager actually, and has been very helpful and obliging.
