Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Hello @Cooked_Cookie and welcome. I hear you, I found psychosis to be very scary but thank goodness I've stayed out of hospital for many years now. Probably down to the med I've been on although it does have drawbacks.

Looking back I wonder if the hospital environment added to some of the psychosis at first. Hopefully things have changed.

How have things been for you?

Hello @Dimity

Thanks for replying so quickly!

I agree, I also wonder if the hospital admission made the experience worse than it could've been... I'd never felt more unsafe and belittled.

It's been just over a year since my first episode. I often find myself reliving some of these moments in my head. Does this happen to you? If so, has it gotten any better?

I had to give up my love of tattooing since taking medication. You can probably imagine how the shakes would impact a tattoo!

Did you know you had bipolar before admission?

It's good to talk to someone who can relate. Appreciate you.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

@Cooked_Cookie yes some things definitely improve. I'm older... I had my first psychotic episode 40 years ago then had a number more and progressed through a couple of diagnoses before being diagnosed bipolar in my last admission 20 years ago. I haven't thought about the admissions for a very long time but still have distinct memories of some, especially the traumatic first one.

It sounds as though your journey is still unfolding, and maybe there are better meds for you or a more appropriate dosage than the one giving you tremors. It can take a while to resolve.

Hello @Dimity , @Cooked_Cookie , @tyme , @Lynette , @Delicatessen , @Jynx

It is a bit confusing 😕 that when my husband says at different times it is adhd or having a bipolar episode or adding depression to the equator

I amm feeling very confused and tired

Hugs @Shaz51 I feel we're all real people with depth and history and are so much more than our diagnoses but I guess when we or our loved ones are struggling a bit and don't know quite know how to explain ourselves it's sometimes handy to fall back on the words or labels.

Mr shaz is really saying he's not himself at the moment, and maybe it's good he can say that. But I can hear how tiring and confusing it is for you.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

@Shaz51 I think part of the difficulty might lie in the fact that ADHD and bipolar (as well as a bunch of other diagnoses) have a lot of overlapping symptoms. It can be impossible at times to distinguish between them. Maybe you could talk to him about focusing on what he needs, rather than what diagnosis might be mucking him about. And of course, don't forget about your needs along the way! Gotta take that time to rest 😊

Thank you @Jynx , @Dimity , we had a rest day today as it was raining and also Mr shaz had to have a ogp scan on his mouth for dentures

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Glad you had a day off @Shaz51 .

I saw my gp today, got a referral to a cardiologist to follow up the tests I had a few weeks ago.
