Topic Tuesday // Covid-19 and reflecting on the dynamic times of 2020 // Tues 15th December, 7-8:30PM AEDT

At the end of each year, many people stop to reflect on the year that has passed and share their hopes for the year to come. For many people, 2020 has been a big year during the Covid-19 pandemic and we have seen conversations across the forums throughout the year discussing the impact in all areas of life; mental health and wellbeing, connection, employment, ways of living, and ways of coping.

As the year draws to a close, we will be taking time to reflect on the year as a whole from the biggest challenges we faced, to the new growth and learnings, the places we found joy and connection, and the strategies we will take with us into the new year.

We will be joined by one of our amazing Sane Moderators @Former-Member, who many of you may know from moderating the online community for two and a half years! @Former-Member will be sharing their reflections from this year and the impact of Covid-19 on their life in Melbourne.

Please join us on the 15th of December from 7:00pm-8:30pm AEDT as we discuss reflections on a dynamic year. We are combining Topic Tuesday's from both the Lived Experience Forum and the Friends, Families and Carers Forum this month. We look forward to hearing all of your insights!

I'm new here - what is this?

The event runs from 7pm - 8.30pm AEDT on the 15th of December. Each month we focus on a different topic, with the session facilitated by a Community Manager or Moderator.

The first post of the thread (this one) will give you an idea of what the topic is and what will be covered.

How do I get involved?

Our text-based event takes place right here! As it is text-based, no software is needed. During the session, to keep up with the latest posts hit the 'refresh' button on your browser for the newest comments (it doesn't automatically update). Keep an eye out for page numbers at the top & bottom of the page, and jump to the highest page number for the most recent post. We recommend using a desktop computer or laptop for the event for overall ease of use .

Throughout the session, the facilitator will post questions for you to answer, usually asking for your own experience on the topic. To contribute to the event, just hit the 'reply' button and share your thoughts. No answers are right or wrong, and everyone is welcome to get involved!

Hi @frog and everyone. I've just remembered that developing a crush on Dr Brett Sutton- Victoria's Cheif Health Officer- was also fun and gave me joy! He is kinda handsome and very knowledgeable as well!

Yes @Daisydreamer!! & I feel like that song they often use for the 'dance it out' on Grey's is really fitting in these times as well!

Even in the hardest times, it sounds like we were able to find moments for joy and fun!

@Former-Member

You mentioned gratitude in your three words to sum up this year. Would you be able to tell us a bit more about that?

Are there things you were grateful for this year?

So happy you're studying something you enjoy @Judi9877. I imagine that would have provided so much purpose this year, which is so good for our mental health. Can I ask what you're studying?

Re: Topic Tuesday // Covid-19 and reflecting on the dynamic times of 2020 // Tues 15th December, 7-8:30PM AEDT

I'm really grateful that because of COVID people feel more comfortable saying when they are not feeling okay. I think some of the stigma around struggling has decreased because of our collective challenges. Hopefully it stays like this 🤞

Also hooray for an extra 10 Medicare subsidised sessions with a mental health professional each year! This was so needed before COVID ever happened, but all the same it’s fantastic to have it now.

I’m grateful for my beautiful friends and family who helped me get through and believed in me when I forgot how to believe in myself. I think not being able to see them has made me more grateful for the time we do get to spend together as well, and I treasure it so much more than I did before.

Hi @Former-Member . I'm studying psychology and sociology. I can't give the exact name of the degree due to guidelines revealing the uni but let's just say I'm loving it. I'm hoping to get into case management at the end of it.

Oh wow @Judi9877! From what I've seen, I feel like that'd be a wonderful fit for you. Anyone would be lucky to have you as their case manager 😊
