Topic Tuesday // Covid-19 and reflecting on the dynamic times of 2020 // Tues 15th December, 7-8:30PM AEDT

At the end of each year, many people stop to reflect on the year that has passed and share their hopes for the year to come. For many people, 2020 has been a big year during the Covid-19 pandemic and we have seen conversations across the forums throughout the year discussing the impact in all areas of life; mental health and wellbeing, connection, employment, ways of living, and ways of coping.

As the year draws to a close, we will be taking time to reflect on the year as a whole from the biggest challenges we faced, to the new growth and learnings, the places we found joy and connection, and the strategies we will take with us into the new year.

We will be joined by one of our amazing Sane Moderators @Former-Member, who many of you may know from moderating the online community for two and a half years! @Former-Member will be sharing their reflections from this year and the impact of Covid-19 on their life in Melbourne.

Please join us on the 15th of December from 7:00pm-8:30pm AEDT as we discuss reflections on a dynamic year. We are combining Topic Tuesday's from both the Lived Experience Forum and the Friends, Families and Carers Forum this month. We look forward to hearing all of your insights!

The event runs from 7pm - 8.30pm AEDT on the 15th of December. Each month we focus on a different topic, with the session facilitated by a Community Manager or Moderator.

We recommend using a desktop computer or laptop for the event for overall ease of use .

Throughout the session, the facilitator will post questions for you to answer, usually asking for your own experience on the topic. To contribute to the event, just hit the 'reply' button and share your thoughts. No answers are right or wrong, and everyone is welcome to get involved!

Such a great lesson around setting boundaries with those around you @Judi9877. Taking some space away from the covid news has been important self care. Did you find most people were receptive to you setting your boundaries?

@TideisTurning

So true - every single time I get ahead or do ok something hits me. Crashes down on me. I'm sick of it. I really am. I'm over trying to "be positive" or "stsy positive "

right now I can't see any light

Everything is so uncertain

I'm sorry I'm so negative

I'm upset I've had a terrible painful two weeks

delete this if you want to

My fun came in the form of a lot of TV shows- I’d go revisit/ rewatch some of my favourites, because for me, familiarity brings a lot of comfort, and it gave me the chance to get lost in someone else’s story for a little much needed escape.

What did you do for fun this year? What brought you joy?

For fun this year, dancing by myself! Also I found mindless entertainment like reality shows really helpful for distraction and zoning out when I just needed a break from the world.

Connection with friends and family brought me joy this year. Also a close friend had twins after a difficult and isolated pregnancy, and I'm so happy for her.

Love your reflections on boundaries @Daisydreamer and @Judi9877!

Humour was a real lifeline for me... it really gave me a sense of solidarity to see things online - often pretty dark humour - but so relateable.

Would it be weird or silly if I said going back to uni and studying something I really enjoy after being confused and lost for so long? Also, I've had fun becoming a Community Guide and learning from different people here in the forums. Knitting and crochet has also given me joy and downloading the new Taylor Swift albums on Apple Music has been fun too. Reading e-magazines online instead of paying for them has been great and cost saving too!

When it feels like you're stuck in the dark, dark humour can be the best kind @frog!

Dancing at home always reminds me of the Grey's anatomy dance parties! Sounds like you made the most of down time when you could @Former-Member!!

For me, I loved my Nana’s birthday, my family had a zoom catch up from all around the world. I loved seeing everyone make the effort to come online and sing happy birthday! The internet lag was hilarious and happy birthday song sounded like an echo.

I also spent a lot of time at home with my partner and his little boy. Lots of building lego and playing with dinosaurs- even escaping to his world of play, and fun and imagination was a welcome reprieve
