Well another year around the sun is almost complete. I was scrolling on Facebook this morning and a notification popped up… ‘you have memories to look back’. I hovered my finger over it for a moment thinking about whether it would be a good idea to look as I’m sure they would all be reflective posts that I have done at the end of another year.
I clicked the link and lay in bed as I read back over the last couple of years of end of year posts. I shouldn’t have been surprised by the fact that the last few years have been hard ones and all the posts were along the lines of…. Survived another year, hoping the following year will be better.
This year has been pretty much the same. Survived another year and can only hope the following year will be a little bit better. But this year has been rougher. I’ve been lucky to of survived it more than once, trying to end it all on a number of occasions. But I’m still here.
Im still fighting. Things are still really shitty and on most days I wish so desperately for it to end. Trauma has changed my life in so many ways and my declining mental health often dictates my days. But I am very fortunate to have an amazing support team who keep me going and this lovely community surrounding me, who I know will always be here to offer an ear and listen without judgement and to ensure that I know that I am never alone. Thank you 🙏
I know that we are in that end of year recap where on all our socials everyone is boasting about the biggest wins and their hopes and dreams for the next year. And that it can be very in your face and some what depressing when you feel like comparing your progress to others. Please don’t do it. If your biggest win this year was simple surviving yet again, then that is your biggest achievement of all.
Here’s to another lap around the sun and simple surviving.
