My Mosaic

My Mosaic

My Mosaic

I like mosaic art, I’ve never actually done any, but it intrigued me. Made up of hundreds of tiny pieces of stone, glass and ceramic. If you look at it close up it doesn’t really look like anything special, if anything it looks like a mess. But if you take a step back and view the whole picture- it’s a master piece. I guess it’s kind of like life. So many tiny parts, some messy if we look just at the one part. Some day i guess I’d hope that the mess of my life will at some point look half decent.

So here is part of my mosaic, bits and pieces kept tidy together 🙂

tagging you @Emelia8 cause you asked 🙂

Re: My Mosaic

The ‘therapeutic psych ward’. It’s never once been something that I have experienced. Those words came out of a Drs mouth today.

angry

frustrated

trapped.

Re: My Mosaic

Feeling really frustrated and trapped tonight.
A dr late this arvo mentioned the term 'therapeutic psych ward'. I've never once experienced that when being in the psych ward. Therapeutic that is.
He said that he would much prefer to see me in a therapeutic psych ward getting help for my eating disorder than sitting here in a medical ward. The psych ward is not helpful for my ED. Every time I've been there I've been left to not eat for days until I am medically unwell. Staff are not equipped. They have no idea. They do not know how to help me.
But then a medical ward isn't helpful either. The nurses don't have the time.
But I'm not medically well enough at the moment to go to the psych ward.
I 'm waiting to see a dietitian tomorrow to try and get me to have some nutritional drinks.
I have no desire to eat. None at all. I don't want to.
While a psych ward admission will keep me safe. That's all it does. They don't offer any other support.
I'm frustrated by how long this is all taking.
My eating..,, or lack there of, was a big contributing factor to why I am in this place. It's a big part of why I did it. I knew the spiral I was getting myself into and couldn't see a way out.
And here I still am. A week since I've eaten. I feel absolutely shit. And I don't know what the way out is.
The gastro dr who thinks the 'therapeutic psych ward' will have all the answers doesn't want to do an NG. I don't want to either. I remember my last experience. But I also remember it took the horrible constant choices out of my hands and gave me a break. It gave me a chance to breath. To get some much need nutrients in so that I could then make those choices again.
Sorry just feel like I am venting. I'm angry.

Re: My Mosaic

Heya @Bow, it always really suck when we have choices taken away, and feeling angry is a very understandable way to be feeling. And I'm sorry.

It must be really scary not being able to see a way out and feeling like nobody can help. When I've had similar experiences, it was really isolating and lonely. It took a long time for me to learn to trust and know that I can be helped.

Was there a time when you did feel helped and supported? What was it like?

Also, thank you for sharing your story about your eating. I know for me, it's always hard to balance telling my story with creating safety for others. Just a gentle reminder of some of these guidelines for posting ❤️

  • not mentioning methods (perhaps use of general terms like binging, restriction, dieting)
  • not mentioning numbers (avoiding weight, quantities of food consumed/not consumed)
  • not promoting the behaviour (avoid making suggestions to others about techniques or talking too positively about your eating disorder)

Re: My Mosaic

Hi @Bow , what's a "therapeutic psych ward"? How is it different to a normal psych ward?

Sorry you feel so trapped and angry 😞

I so wish you could get into that inpatient ED clinic you mentioned in Sydney. I am sending wishes for it...

I hope you can see the dietician today... Thinking of you lots and sending much 💜

Re: My Mosaic

Your guess is as good as mine @NatureLover I’ve never heard of one before. In all my admissions in a psych ward I’ve never felt them to be therapeutic. They keep you safe, give you meds and feed you. Maybe someone else would have something helpful to add?? Maybe a @moderator could shed some light?

Re: My Mosaic

It’s been a long day again. Still yet to see a dietitian. This should of happened days ago.
hopefully my meds should be started back up again tonight and I’ll get some kind of sleep maybe.
mum and daughter came in to see me. That was nice.

Re: My Mosaic

To be honest @Bow @NatureLover @Captain24 , I've never heard of a 'therapeutic psych ward' - shouldn't ALL psych wards attain to being therapeutic?

I know psych wards haven't worked for me in the past, purely because they haven't been therapeutic - as @Bow said, they are more just to keep you safe, stable then discharged.
