Checking In

Hi,

I'm not doing so well. Didn't have a good appointment with psychatrist today and because I am struggling, it is difficult for me to open up.

I see @oceangirl

I'm sorry to hear this my friend. I think things like that can indeed become the norm after a while - for me in the past few months it is being lethargic and therefore not getting up that early on days I don't have work.

I have been somewhat similar in relation to not able to plan things for my life and also some pressure maybe.

How much sleep do you normally get OG? I aim for about 7-8 hours each night. I also try my best to limit sugar before bed and I have also limited my caffeine intake each day and that has helped marginally.

I told my psych a few years ago i had trouble with sleep and he changed some meds for me. They were effective but i had weird dreams so had to reduce it.

I also don't spend time on screens before 1 hour i expect to be in bed - so if i want to be in bed by 10 pm then i don't use screens after 9pm - tv is okay as it is away from my eyes that a pc or similar.

In terms of sleep that has helped a fair bit.

But in terms of other stuff too - well then that is another kettle of fish altogether I would say - because that's about life choices and management etc

What did you do at TAFE? Sorry i think i asked you this before

Hi Hams @MDT Sorry I had to head down to the shop and got caught talking to a friend on FB and I had to give my parents a call and I wanted to spend some time responding to your message. I am not thinking too clearly atm.

Yes we do have similar issues and I have to try to make more of an effort to do activities early in the day but also try to balance things out too. You made good suggestions about sugar intake, caffeine, screen time etc I need to be more disciplined.

I am not on much medication at all, only on half an adult dose of medication. And I take natural tablet to help with sleep, Dr said it is not effective unless you're sleepy but I find it helps with how I feel in general, so I generally take every night unless I fall asleep beforehand.

The amount of sleep varies but generally a few hours at a time- some times more. But the quality of my sleep is not good either. Probably combination of things contributing to this- I am low in vitamin D and other vitamins. Might be worthwhile for me to be reviewed by the Dr and we can discuss and come up with a plan. It is so frustrating though.

I am frustrated with sleep and how that impacts me and not being able to plan. And I also have problems with stress, anxiety and pressure. And I often take on other peoples responsibilities and I have to the conclusion I need to prioritise my energy etc. I feel bad saying this because I have always been there for others and never say no.

I have to start to look, at how I manage things, and how I interact with people etc. And see what impact that has on me. I generally give 100% plus to all that I do. I am observing more- my stress levels with people, certain situations and situations that I feel supported, and that has helped me, esp when I have genuinely felt supported. I never really noticed the impact others had on me, and esp to my mental health. And that I need to make changes for myself and see how I can better manage my interactions with others and what strategies I can use. I think, I am heading in the right direction here.

Btw I studied fitness at tafe, and it was interesting and fun to learn. Once again thank you for your support and kindness- I appreciate it and it means so much to me. You're a good friend Hams. Sorry about the late replay and yes I am okay.

Re: Checking In

all good @oceangirl i hope you had a good chat with your folks

I was getting about the same sleep but waking up at least 3 times during the night before i mentioned it to my p doc so then he helped with a few suggestions including different meds etc. But some naural remedies can help - especially things like peppermint tea or warm milk

Yeah taking on others responsibilities is hard on us - sometimes i find that this is the case when it comes to my sister who doesn't do much at all when we are at home. It can be very infuriating so I eventually gave up telling her to help. I just tell our folks. No big deal. I guess I learned to detach from it.

Being there for others is important yeah. My friend who i had dinner with last week is a bit like that - he has a job which is a good thing in itself. Didn't go to uni or tafe and is still in stable work so that is a good thing. But he keeps getting caught up on stuff to do with dating and relationships. I gave him a few pointers but also the importance of not obsessing over it and focusing instead on where he can go in his own life - but he wanted straight answers from me, but I can't provide that. I said to him, I dunno what you want but you gotta figure it out. I think he lacks some clear thinking on his own direction - which is exactly like me. but it is becoming clearer slowly. But maybe that is what the 20s are about hey OG ? How old are you again?

Self management is so important hey? I daresay that I am learning that the hard way. But it is a lesson worth learning and a lesson worth going through. We need to be self compassionate but self determined as well.

Studying fitness would be good - you can move around in that area.

One thing I have learned to appreciate in the past month is that ANY form of study is a GOOD thing. It's just about what we do with it - for me doing a BA (international studies and government) was a really cool trhing. Now I apply it and can apply some of those skills in other areas. Then "time" becomes the enemy lol..

Anyway OG I think I have rambled enough - I hope this is helping you my friend

@MDT Sorry for the delay to get back to you, I was not feeling too good last night. But I was able to sleep a bit better last night, which was good.

I had morning tea today with people I volunteer with and then worked this afternoon (volunteering). I stopped off on the way home and got my mums christmas present. My dad I am going to take out and let him pick what he wants. I have just feed Milo and Kira.

Its great that you and your friend can discuss things that matter. I don't really like dating myself and not sure why. But then again I have not dated in a long time or been in a relationship. I think were I am at the moment, I probably just prefer focusing in - on getting myself healty. I am in my 40's but still quite young for my age.

We can learn from others too without making the same mistakes and that way we don't have to learn the hard way (hopefully). Just remember we only have one life and sometimes with all the planning- it still doesn't go to plan. Sometimes taking a leap of faith is important too and learning to let go- I know many people struggle with this. For example letting go of relationships, past, mistakes... the list could go on. When did life get so complcated.

Yes.. study is good- I enjoy the process of studying. I am quite organized person. But now I want to spend time with people in my life (loved ones) and hopefully meet new people (friendship). I'm hoping this post made sense.

Re: Checking In

Life has a beauty to it in amongst its tragedy I think @oceangirl

Maybe that's the most important thing to keep in mind. I read Chekhov this morning and I enjoyed it. It was a good story - About Love - if you want to check it out

I think age is a number - maturity and personality are usually bigger, more important things. Idk if it is a compliment but i thought you were in your 20s or early 30s lol.

I hope you have a good sleep my friend

Hi Hams @MDT

I will check it out , thanks for the reference. I agree age is just a number - and there are more important qualties to someone - other then youth (age) and looks. It is a compliment, thank you 🙂

I did have a nap, almost lasted 2 hours.
