My 2020 (amongst so many other's 2020 experiences)

My 2020 (amongst so many other's 2020 experiences)

Hi all
Hams here making a new post
You know I think this year has been hard on all of us. But I think I forgot how it affected me on a personal level.
In February after completing an internship I had a few networking events lined up. I had some references. I also had some stuff published. That was pretty cool.
Of course in March I had some planned events to go to but they fell through due to corona.
I also met a girl on a dating app and we had a few Skype chats. But she had to move to a different city. That was pretty bad for me. I thought there was something that could transpire but it didn't. It is the second time it happened to me actually. The first time was during 2018/19 when I couldn't return to Poland.
There was also my Colombian friend who had her own issues in life and how that had impacted her. It was a testable friendship at times. I guess it is in the past now. But it did hit me hard. The impact that her ex had on her was damaging. Then for her to be harassed by some random guy she just met when right next to me was another level entirely. I was happy that I chose to intervene. But it was exhausting.
Then I was working all through corona as if nothing had happened or changed in the world. I was placed in some situations I hated with a passion. A low key job that was made harder by bad colleagues. Lots of politics, personality clashes, pettiness etc. Add to that the fact that there is a divide between boomers and millennial in my workplaces and its a recipe for who knows what.
I made the choice to go back to work. It was a hard choice. I remember getting really stressed and upset about it this year because I didn't know what to do. But I went back with the knowledge that I'd be challenged and I guess I have met that challenge head on and defeated it by just going back, but also needing to help others who were new.
I am unsure what to do in my life next. I have been thinking about maybe going and doing a law degree. Working near that industry in my current role has made me see that field in a new light. I must also balance that with my desire to move out. Maybe I even need to start looking for a new job.
Currently my coworkers are hard to put up with. One won't stop asking very personal questions and keeps looking at me.. If he crosses the line at any point i need to be ready to deploy my defences and take it to the next level if need be. The other is fussy and doesn't listen. A great deal of patience is required for that.
I saw my p doc yesterday and he doesn't want to see me till January which was good to hear. Seeing as a few months ago I was about to quit work and I had SI...
We are nearly in November. Who knows what is next i guess.
I'm reminded of a quote from Seneca that I read recently
"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity"
Maybe that describes 2020 for me the best.

Hey everyone!

Reflecting back on the year so far, it certainly as been a strangely different year:

My trip interstate at the beginning of 2020 was cancelled so I couldn't see my family in Sydney.

I worked for 8 weeks before COVID peaked in the first round and ended up with an extended break from work.

Next, we were told we had to work from home. I hated it! It was insane. However, I did begin a healthy living routine - walks everyday, eating freshly cooked meals, focused on meditation. I was beginning to enjoy a slower-paced life.

I still had hopes I'd be able to travel overseas as I had booked a long awaited trip - in the end, no way. I lost my tickets, visa, tour booking... all up, about $10 000. At first I wanted at least some of the money recovered, but now, I just think of all the job losses and so I've resigned to the fact that I won't get it back.

Returned on-site to work for a few weeks. It was an anxious time because I worked in the ultimate COVID hotspot at that time.

Second wave hit. Began working from home again. I knuckled down on my uni work and was really on top of it. I really enjoyed pacing myself through Covid and doing everything to monitor my mental and physical health. Once again, I got used to the slower paced life. It was great, but I DID miss my restauranting and socialising out. For the first time, we had curfews and restrictions placed upon us. There were checkpoints every time I drove. It felt weird... like war times.

Melbourne lockdown finslly eased. Back to work onsite. Now the rush of the world is back, and I'm finding myself less able to cope. Now it is about reflecting on what worked during covid so that I can maintain my health. I'm finding myself a lot tidier having to commute to and from work, I'm getting more stressed, eating more junk food as a result, finding it harder to concentrate on meditation...

Looks like I've got much to learn..

Hello @BPDSurvivor

What you describe I think will be similar for a lot of us. I still have anxiety around being out and if there's lots of people I completely freak out and don't want to be there. (There is usually the shops) I'm sorry you lost the opportunity to have your holiday. I do think you need to chase up some refunds. I arrange travel as one of my role as at work and refunds/credits have been granted in every case. I hate to think that because you are nice you're being taken advantage of 🤗

I know you'll find your feet with your new routine, it might just take a little time xxx

Enjoy your day today my friend 💞

@Meowmy @MDT @Judi9877 @Shaz51 👋

Thank you @Meowmy you too!

What do you have on your agenda today?

Re: My 2020 (amongst so many other's 2020 experiences)

@BPDSurvivor I lost an overseas holiday too. I have been fortunate enough to get everything refund except flights with virgin. I’m stuck with 3k in lousy travel credit that I will probably never be able to use.

I think you should consider chasing up refunds, from what I’ve read most places have been offering it.

2020 sure has been a difficult year!

Re: My 2020 (amongst so many other's 2020 experiences)

@BPDSurvivor I'm thankful for you sharing all of that

Yes I do believe that there was a slower pace to lofe under lockdown. Even though I still went tow rod, everything was ceased. Used to go for walks as well and also weights did some work around the house.

I think as time goes by we will get to used to things slowly

I am glad you shared your story here my friend. Good onya 🙂

You could also see if you could get some of that money back too

Re: My 2020 (amongst so many other's 2020 experiences)

@BPDSurvivor

Thanks for sharing. This world has always been too fast paced for me. These days, I move at a slower pace. I actually need it for my mental health. I still wonder between mental health and personality. Is it my personality or is it purely for mental health reasons. Perhaps a mix of the two. I do know that rushing things give me anxiety if my efforts to not control it are not working. I cant always control it, I know. My way of dealing with that is to tune out and let people be. I guess I go off with the fairies so I dont heighten my anxiety more.

I cant even go there about 2020 for me, so I just don't.

@BPDSurvivor ,

I'm very sorry you had to cancel your trip, $10,000 is a lot of money to lose. I would follow @Anastasia advice and try to recover your money💚

Happy Halloween 🎃 xx
