KITCHEN TEA, BRIDAL SHOWER, HEN'S NIGHT, BACHELORETTE PARTY, STAGETTE, HEN PARTY - Ug! I'm so confused! or dumb, lol, but lucky for me, I have an entire world encyclopedia in a he palm of my hand - thanks to the internet, Google, Wikipedia & mobile phones nowadays. I never had a pre wedding party or baby shower, so, now that such things are so easy to find out (without embarrassing oneself by having to ask), now's the time for learning. Just sharing in case someone else out there feels as daft as me lol

KITCHEN TEA: Traditionally, a Bridal Kitchen Tea is just that – an afternoon tea party in which guests bring a gift for the Bride that are suitable for kitchen use only. This all female gathering is usually held at a hostess's residence. A "time honored idea" with tea, chitchats, gossip & sometimes smart hats.

BRIDAL SHOWER, on the other hand sees guests bring a gift of any description (not just kitchenware) to “shower” the Bride with.

HEN'S NIGHT: 'hen party' 'hen do' or 'hen night' are more modern terms used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia & NZ.

BACHELORETTE PARTY
The bachelorette party is consciously modelled after the centuries-old bachelor's party, which is historically a dinner given by his friends shortly before his wedding. More common in United States & Canada. The term STAGETTE is sometimes used in Canada.

THE CONCEPT is sometimes affectionately used to title other ladies gatherings. In 1940 America's first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, hosted a "CHRISTMAS TIME HEN PARTY" for cabinet wives and "ladies of the press".

A GREEK BRIDAL SHOWERS
GreekBoston.com says bridal showers with Greek themes are big on decorations that pay homage to the Greek culture: splashes of traditional colors (light blue & white) among wedding colours, Greek columns, Greek vases, Greek flags, Greek music, a table filled with Greek pastries and possibly serve a traditionally Greek menu. A Greek 'Bridal Shower Favour' (a small gift for guests), simply must be accompanied by 'Koufetta' (a Greek good luck token of a small mesh bag containing an odd number of white candy coated Jordan Almonds).

IN CONCLUSION, whichever term is used, its simply a party gathering given in honor of the bride-to-be, conducted in a style common to her social circle.

Re: NEW WORD TODAY

“TU ME MANQUES"
In French, you don’t really say “I miss you.” You say “tu me manques,” which is closer to “YOU ARE MISSING FROM ME” You are a part of me, you are essential to my being. You are like a limb, or an organ, or blood. I cannot function without you.

I love that. “You are missing from me.”

AFFECT & EFFECT
Most of the time, you'll want AFFECT as a verb meaning to influence something and EFFECT for the something that was influenced.
The difference between affect and effect is so slippery that people have started using "impact" as a verb instead. Don't be one of them!
