Re: NEW WORD TODAY

Heavens knows @Former-Member! I'm always jokingly being criticised at work for using BIG words. The younger employees get so hopping mad when I make them look it up in the dictionary. I do write the word down though because using the right spelling means they'll actually find it.
I'm just a big old meany!!

Hi @Former-Member
Let's see what the dictionary comes up with for RESILIENCE. You might find out that it's not quite what you thought it was.

Off the top of your head, what is resilience to you. @Former-Member you could jump in on this one too and anyone else that wants to. I know I had the wrong end of the stick for many a long year as to what resilience really means. 😜

Re: NEW WORD TODAY

I have thought it means to be able to deal with things so they don't take you down. To handle difficulties in your stride @Former-Member, @Kurra

I THINK ANYONE WITH MI HAS LIVING PHD IN RESILIENCE

Re: NEW WORD TODAY

I love this thread.

Language and words use .. is a huge part of life and enters into the cognitive dimensions of mental illness,

I have known a few word salads in my time.

I used my pocket Oxford a great deal ... and often longed to own the Shorter ... sneaking an odd peak into the Longer ..... in the library.

Access to knowledge is a little different these days.

Yet when I noticed the difference in the definitions of a recent purchase ... I was not impressed that the updated dictionary just used synonyms to explain more ... than conceptual ideas ... it seemed a cop-out to me.

Re: NEW WORD TODAY

So OK @Former-Member
Endurance was your top of the head response. Mine many years ago was pretty close to invincible re mi.

The meaning that relates best to mi (according to Kurra ) is the "ability to bounce back ". My interpretation of this that it's OK to fall in a temporary heap for a day or two or for that matter a couple of weeks.

The resilient person is the one who gets up again and again and again, dusts themself off and starts picking up the puzzle pieces on the floor and continues putting them back in place and taking up the challenge once more.

I used to think I was as week as but I've learnt that I'm the opposite. I get back on my feet and start rebuilding.

Come on peeps! Add to the discussion or tell me I've got no idea at all. Imho this is a very important concept to understand. 💪👂👀

Re: NEW WORD TODAY

Yep I think you are right and wrong @Kurra and I'm not being diplomatic. Be ause there are different kind of resilience a for different kinds of things. Example - if you'd gone down early last week for a week or so and didn't have the meeting because of it but eventually got back up were you being resilient then.? I saw your resilience of bouncing back after a few hours when things were really tough and putting your best foot forward regardless of how difficult it was. Being the devils advocate with you @Kurra because I can. I don't know how to do that with me just yet. Resilience seems like a way off for me but I will concede there is some tiny ground being made each week. 💜😊😬😜😳
