Sick and Tired of Winter

Sick and Tired of Winter

This afternoon I took medication for my back pain and went to bed and slept for a long time

I am sure I am not alone - I am fed up and tired of winter - and although of reverse cycle A/C and insulation I do not have any cure for the carpet covered concrete slab I live on and the only time I don't feel cold is when I put my feet up or go to bed and neither are good for my spine

I feel as if the winter is passing but I am also wasting my time - I do all I need to here and have the dinner on right now but I am just flat out tired and bored and fed-up and need to take walks and chat to the people who ha-ag out a the coffee shop with their dogs waiting for other people to come up and talk about their dogs

Gee - life can be so tough at times (I know there are people worse off) - bored - yes I am rarely bored but I am nearly at screaming point (and there are people worse of than I am)

Okay - I have written this - what are the odds that the weather will be better now

Okay - my dd and family went up norht for a few days and I think they fly back tomorrow - lets hope there is a dramatic improvement in the weather before then

Of course it feels better to gripe - I'm griping

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

Hi @Decadian, winter is a nightmare for me. We live in a farm house, 80 years old it is, therefore draughts everywhere. Have heater on day and night but I never feel warm. It is lovely and warm outside on my veranda so I sit out there overlooking the views of beautiful green crops. I like winter better than summer as we get quite a few snakes here. I had 3 in the kitchen last summer, especially distressing as I have a phobia towards them. Hope u can keep yourself warm. 😊

Hi @Cazchri

An old and cold and draughty farm house sounds unpleasant - and heaters on day and night happen here too - and waking up to another dull morning is literally rotting my socks -

I live in the southern side of a eastward facing pair of units - and no one has lived next door ever since I moved here - 12.5 years ago - and so no sun shines on the northern wall even - and this is a cold unit -

Even so - just seeing the sun shine makes a difference -

I went and saw my psychologist and this was my last session with her and I know that this was my last session - to continue I would be just rehashing the past - and I have been through it all enough - and I am tired of the story -

I went to the shopping mall and got three pairs of trakkie pants - they should make a difference to the way I feel when I get dressed - and then came home and felt really strange and tired - really not well at all - and went to bed and slept for a long time - and today I am feeling really drained

Perhaps this is more than the weather - having my last session with my psychologist is enough I think - but with this mouldy weather I have had enough

I will survive - but it is a long time since I felt really warm

Hi @Cazchri there up sides and down sides

I idealise country living but I know it can be tough.

I often have scarf and coat on inside as son cant cope with the heater on.

Our circadian rhythms seem to match but our body heat issues are opposite.

HI @Appleblossom

I have always felt the cold and have suffered a lot feeling uncomfortable because other people don't like the heater

So I am glad I live alone and I can leave the heat on day and night through the winter

I really feel for you

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

Hi @Decadian. I guess it would be emotional finishing up your therapy. It is a bit - end of an era. That is a big change. Of course you're feeling tired.
Be extra kind to yourself. Take rest when you need it.

@Cazchri

For some years I lived in an old farm workers cottage. It was built in the 1870s and was quite a substantial structure in comparison with those you see today. Draughty? Oh yes! I spent months tracking down the sources of those evil draughts and slowly but surely managed to seal them up. Lots of plaster, draught excluder foam, you name I did it.
I also put insulation in the ceiling and filled all the cracks between the floor boards with silastic. In desperation I mad windows to fit on the inside of the existing windows - a pseudo double glazing. In addition I hung heavy curtains over each door.

Eventually it became quite a snug little home but I'm so glad that there were fireplaces in every room including the bedrooms. Needless to say I did go through a mountain of firewood and coke, the coke you burn.
How I long for the comfort of an open fire. Ducted gas certainly keeps the house warm but it has none of the ambiance of an open fire.

Hi @utopia

I think you are right - even though I made the decision myself to end my sessions with my pscychologist - and she will be moving back to Sydnet - I felt as if I had gone far enough -

Stuff with people who have died or are toxic began to feel really tired - I guess I know enough about all of that not to bother people any more - I guess I will mention it from time to time - but there is no way to change those things and I am tired of talking ahout them

But not my son - he will be with me forever - sometimes I remember something else about him and I never get tired of that - but it will always be hard for me - as it would be for anyone

I know the story though - and there comes a time when I wonder why I need to keep telling his story - I guess I will always need to do that - I know that will always hurt and will always be there

Thanks @utopia

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

Yes I think you're right @Decadian. There comes a point when we have talked about certain people in our lives. But if they don't change, if the past can't change - you just end up rehashing the same. Once you have gone over it, it's time to try and let it go.
Your son is a different matter. He is still your son. You are still his mother. Memories will always be there. New events will happen in your life, that you may wish he was here to see. I imagine that pain may always be a part of these thoughts. I've never experienced the pain of loosing a child - so I hope you don't take my comments as being insensitive.
I just hope that your pain is bearable.

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

Hi @utopia

You are not insensitive at all - you are spot on

I know I feel feel my son's death until I die - and those stories never get old and boring - they are always fresh - I loved him and went far more than the extra mile and glad I did

But you are right about toxic family members - I remembered a lot of my mother's abuse at her funeral - so when I started seeing my psychologist last year I had to face all of this - and it had been down inside me for a long time

I know something was there - when I was a child I had a terror of my mother - yet I did not lose my spirit - I was rebellious - and I remember talking about this to a social worker a few years back - and told her I did not think I ever wanted to remember what my mother had done that caused this tightness in my chest - when I was an adult - and had moved outside the family circle -

Those repressed memories lay under our day-to-day of life - and when the time is right they will come up - so last year when I started to see my psychologist I had to really come to terms with myj memories - all my memories - and finally got sick and tired of this using my time and energy

And I dare say that there will be times when I do not want intrusive memories - and I need to remind myself that I do not need these - and find ways of getting past it

I write a lot - and maybe one day I will get my writing into a book - the people in what I write are not real people - but the situations are - and I find it helpful to write

After all - we can hit "delete" and those memories can be gone -

It is working for me now

Thanks @utopia
