Sick and Tired of Winter

Sick and Tired of Winter

This afternoon I took medication for my back pain and went to bed and slept for a long time

I am sure I am not alone - I am fed up and tired of winter - and although of reverse cycle A/C and insulation I do not have any cure for the carpet covered concrete slab I live on and the only time I don't feel cold is when I put my feet up or go to bed and neither are good for my spine

I feel as if the winter is passing but I am also wasting my time - I do all I need to here and have the dinner on right now but I am just flat out tired and bored and fed-up and need to take walks and chat to the people who ha-ag out a the coffee shop with their dogs waiting for other people to come up and talk about their dogs

Gee - life can be so tough at times (I know there are people worse off) - bored - yes I am rarely bored but I am nearly at screaming point (and there are people worse of than I am)

Okay - I have written this - what are the odds that the weather will be better now

Okay - my dd and family went up norht for a few days and I think they fly back tomorrow - lets hope there is a dramatic improvement in the weather before then

Of course it feels better to gripe - I'm griping

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

Hi @Decadian

And a very reasonable gripe too. Winter is an anathema to me.
I have been rather bored being off work and quite handicapped. I did however lash out last night and bought a couple of new books for my Kindle. I find the Kindle so much easier to hold although I much prefer the feel and smell of a real book.
Never mind - it shouldn't be too much longer before the weather becomes warmer. My fear is that with the strange weather patterns that wintery weather might remain longer than usual.
Aargh! What an horrific thought.

Thanks Kurra

My spine is in such shape I am considered disabled also - so yes - this bad weather is more than just a mood - and I have the feeling it will last forever

A few weeks ago my cat had a very dense coat - and this is thinning out already so this is a sign from nature that the weather will not stay this way forever

I understand that you are bored if you work and your back is that bad it is not fun break for you with back pain -

Thanks for understanding - other people have tough things to deal with - our moods are important too - and I think most people understand that -

I think it can be called "cabin fever - and soon it will be too hot - mmmeyp - hopefully

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

Hot, how I dream of hot weather. I live in a mostly dry climate and our summer heat is rarely humid. I can take hot hot weather as long as it's a dry heat.

I will go to sleep tonight dreaming of a hot summer.

I was meant to go back to work tomorrow

I went to do some shopping this afternoon since the cupboard was bare. Oh me oh my! My back seized part way through and I wasn't getting that much anyway.

I've decided to stay home tomorrow as well. My current job is physically very active. I love it and it's so much better for my back than sitting on my backside all day. However given my current circumstances I think I'll err on the side of caution. So much better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

It sounds as if your back is very painful @Kurra

What sort of work do you do?

It's the quality of the heat or cold that makes the difference - cold weather in Melbourne is at sea-level so it never snows - and in Canberra - although there as snow about - it even feel a little bit in the city - the cold was clean and cold

And in Mebourne we have have humidity that makes life unpleasant - but then there is always dry heat - which is much easier

But in Melbourne people talk about the weather all the time - I try not to but that's the conversation - the damn weather - and it's always different

I must stick my head outside and see what the weather feels like tonight - it seems I have been inside forever

Yes err on the side of caution @Kurra ... I can do a lot and move small basalt boulders etc in garden ... but be mindful of good techniques when moving etc.

@Decadian

I am really starting to be an old lady and get quite fearful when son wants heater off ... the cold triggers my arthritis and I start to seize up ... so I will be looking forward to warmer weather .. tho by my memory we often have cool wet stretches even as late as October.

I am a big scarf wearer ... cant go outdoors without one ...

they are also possible tools ... hhmmmm ... after I had handed in my rope ... so it was when my mind had done that little loop and came ou through the other side that I finally started to relax into ME and into wearing the comfort of my scarves ... and saying good bye to all the SI ... but it is also like being addicted to smoking ... I cant get cocky about it ... or it may get me when I am not on guard ...

sorry to bring discussion down ... I think I needed to get that out there on the world wide web ... though ...

you both have helped me ... thanks Apple

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

I work on the rural edge of Canberra. We got quite a lot of snow that day. In fact it was really quite heavy as I was driving to work.
It had settled right up to the building bit was melting by midday and quite slushy.

In many ways I'm a general dogs body but I also do lab work so it can be extremely varied. I'm in this position until the end of September. I'm one of those people who can be sent anywhere to any job and be up and running within the first hour. I'm crossing my fingers that a permanent position can be found in this portfolio. Time will tell. I'm of an age where it's wise to remain flexible and ready to turn my hands to anything.

@Kurra@Appleblossom

It's good that I don't feel all alone and have my socks rotting in this crappy Melbourne weather - no one could possibly bring the tone of this thread down - it's the pits

That's interesting work Kurra - and I love Canberra - I noticed flying in it has large outlying areas but the city is something I walk around in a few hours and saw everything

And Apple - no way would I turn my heater down until I am going to bed - I will do that after my shower - I feel I need a shower

I have just watched the second Hunger Games movie - I know where they got the plot - it's the Roman Gladitorial Games and the guy running it is called Caesar - really

I think it's just about time I hit the sack

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

Hi @Decadian. Winter is horrid this year. Bloody cold in Victoria and being that I'm not working means I have to run the heater all day & when the temperature drops below 5° at night I keep it on. I sit rugged up on the couch or in bed but my hands are freezing. I can't read a book wearing gloves.
Cold days / weeks like these also make it hard to get out and about. But I have my WorkCover job helper appointment tomorrow lunch & then my psychologist appointment after that. So I will get out of the house. Hope the clouds part and let a bit of sun through. It makes all the difference to my moods.
I hope you are able to get your house warm. Must be really frustrating. Especially when the cold makes your pain so much worse.
Tomorrow I hope the sun shines where you are

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

I'm sorry you are suffering too @utopia

It sounds horrible that you can't even keep the air warm enough to stop your hands from being icy

The first two years I was in this unit the winters were so bad I spent all day on the couch watching TV and all night in bed and did my chores for a short time in the morning and evening

I am in Government Housing but I was lucky enough to have the insulation and reverse cycle A/C put in with a letter from my pain specialist - yes - both extreme heat and cold can make my back worse

This winter seems worse than the last few though - it was sunny when I woke up this morning but that went away quickly - and I am just not able to get myself together long enough to do all I want to

Yes - I have said it before - winter is here and we get one every year - but weather like this is a waste of time -

Brrrrrrrrr

Re: Sick and Tired of Winter

It is a colder winter this year. @Decadian. It affects my mum pretty bad. She wears a blanket that you plug in over her shoulder. She says all the metal in her shoulder attractsthe cold.
I'm glad you had son today. Pure clouds where I am but no rain.
I never thought I would ever be interested in the weather
