Down in the Dumps

Down in the Dumps

.

The numbing down.

The dumbing down.

The meds settle and my brain goes sideways.
I am so alone, most of the time.

I somethimes just like my own company.

The past 6 months were so busy and traumatic helping my elderly Mum into care, her fighting every inch of the way.

Now she is looked after, safe, a bit unhappy but trying to make the most of her new life situation.

Days and weeks spent being chucked into PTSD flashbacks. And bit by bit in fact learning that the person I was dealing with (the perpetrator of early abuse) is just a human being struggling too, and I hate that I hate that I saw his humanity. I feel SO conflicted. That I can be empathetic towards the person who caused me so much trauma... I just want to hate him, but I am finding I do not, but I cannot forgive him either, Its a hard thing.

Went to see a psychologist for a few sessions. Same old, Same old. First one, second one. Very down and anxious. All helpie and useful. Then flicked into a mild hypomania so arrived all bouncy and protecting my inner-core. She decided I didn;t need any more sessions, because of the way I presented. i couldn;t say - but I am actually hypomanic. Because when I am I don;t know, when I am IN it I don;t know. I just look and sound very together - but I talk fast and my thought flow and speech is quite different. But because these people don;t know me - they just see someone with a sparkle int he eye saying "I am going REALLY well" and they beleive me. Then the crash down, down. I have been crying every day, alone.

My poor partner had all her teeth out a month ago - from peridontal disease and she is trying to adapt to new dentures and I feel so very sorry for her - she supports us both the only person in our relationship who works and I feel so damned useless. I have taken good care of her preparing meals she can eat (soup, soup, custard, soup, scrambled egg) but she has to keep getting up and going to work putting her dentures in which hurt so much. Poor girl having to do that HAVING to do it so we can both survive.

I feel so useless, broken body, broken mind. She is going interstate for a week next week and I will be really ALONE then - and I am fearful of that. I can cope for the 8 hours she is at work, entertain myself do housework, do some grpahic design , flop about on facebook, read, watch TV, walk my darling doggie daughter, visit Mum (but I just need a break from Mum really!), shop etc - but really I feel right now that my life is such a waste of space.

I came on here with an intent to involve and read others stories see what I could do to reach OUT instead of just stewing on my own juices. I am reading other people's stries and it is jst crashing me down further.

My doggie-daughter is having her own dental today, she will be aneasthetised and have a tooth removed and scale cleaned, I have her on a very good diet, but her breed is prone to teeth decay. So I don;t even have her here breathing beside me. I know she will be beside herself at the vets she has such huge sepeartion anxiety. Poor girlie too.

Oh what a woe is me post this is! What shall I DO - to lift myself up and out? What? Suggestions welcome - it is cold and threatening rain so walk is not a possibility!

Re: Down in the Dumps

You are a writer @MoonGal You are a thinker. That has been evident in all your posts. @utopia is right. Get that certificate. You can finish it regardless of any pear shaped incidents. They are just little incidents. There are so many ripe juicy perfect pears floating around that you have created.

We all make mistakes, call it a mistake and let it go without being too self critical. Its more a question about honing skills and judgements. Thats evolution.

Creative arts can be so competitive. It demands your all,

Pretty sure its why I started to hang out in choirs, as I was craving musical and social harmony ..

I am pretty sure that some of your mania is hope and energy and drive.

Hope they say springs eternal.

Glad to hear from you.

Sorry you are in the dumps

Re: Down in the Dumps

I love this forum and my fellow-travellers here. It is important that at least somebody knows when I switch states. Thank you for encouragement. I got the last assignment done and in. @utopia it is an online course with deadlines, so not one I have to physically inhabit a classroom for. I still have to do three peer-reviews and then I am done.

There is ONE further course I can apply to do, where the student writes a 15 -20 page short story. I will wait until I am feeling better before doing that one.

@Appleblossom, you are a honey, thank you.
I tend to, as you know, throw the baby out with the bathwater when I switch to mixed state or depression. I tend to think that 'Nothing I did before is 'real' 'this is a brain-lie - of course, I am a writer! 🙂 It's not JUST me that thinks so. In fact, I got asked to be a mentor on the course I did because of "academic excellence" and helpfulness towards other students. That doesn't spell - seriously brain-disordered does it? But while I am flat I can't see the good for the bad.

In fact, Damien Leader speaks about Bipolar in terms of it being a condition when people see ALL GOOD or ALL BAD and never the twain shall meet. So true.

Anyways I best get out and get some air and exercise... walk our doggit. Will be good for me.

Re: Down in the Dumps

Great news @MoonGal. Glad it's online. Made it a fraction easier for you.
And good on @Appleblossom reminding you that 'you are a writer'.
We need to be reminded of our abilities and strengths sometimes. As we are not simply our MI.
Well done!

@Former-Member thanks for very cute sloth pic xx

@Shaz51 - I am terrible. I have a new problem. It's my thyroid, I developed a small goiter week before last and it persisted so I rang my Dr last week, but had to wait a week to see her. I don't know what the problem is yet, had an ultrasound yesterday,, the left hand side of my thyroid is enlarged, not HUGE but definitely larger and I have a sore throat and difficulty swallowing. I had Thyroid bloods taken Tuesday, then the ultrasound yesterday. Back to see Dr next Tuesday. Woke up at 3am this morning with a terrible stomach ache, and feel like I have been hit by a truck. Everything hurts, every joint including all my ribs. I really feel very unwell. I suspect these things are NOT related but am worried as you can imagine.

Anyways I am about to go back to bed. One day at a time right now. One hour at a time, more like. Thanks for thinking of me.

Re: Down in the Dumps

So sorry to read that you are feeling so ill @MoonGal

I also have a thyroid disorder. The left side of my thyroid gland is enlarged, also not largely - but I didn't have a goiter or nodules. I was referred to a wonderful endocrinologist whom recognised the symptoms and diagnosed me with the thyroid disorder "Hashimotto". This was making me feel more depressed and anxious - thyroid disorders can cause psychiatric illness as well.

All I needed to take was one thyroid med. After trial and error, frequent blood tests - eventually I found the right dosage and started to feel much better. I didn't suffer stomach ills from it - that may be anxiety though. The sooner you see a specialist the quicker you can receive the right treatment and put your mind at ease. Don't worry my friend as now that you know what is wrong you can treat it and in time you will feel much better.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Warm hugs 🤗
