Changing meds

Changing meds

Hi. I battled MDD & acute anxiety nearly all of my adult life. I've been on numerous different SSRIs, SRNIs, antipsychotics, tried rTMS & ECT. Am addicted to a benzo for my anxiety.

I am in the process of swapping out from a SRNI to a MAOI and the wash out period is hell. I really don't think I'm going to make it. This is the darkest place I have ever been.
I have no family support, honestly no friends, not able to work & are completely isolated.

i don't feel my medical team actually care much anymore, they are overwhelmed by new clients because of covid.

i hardly sleep, but the last thing in my mind before I do, is how much I want to die. It's the first thought of the day when I wake up.

what if this new medication doesn't work either??

Re: Changing meds

Good morning @NatureLover

How are you going?

Yeah, the appt y'day was tough, but I knew it was going to be. I'm glad I typed up notes of what I wanted to say, because I wasn't in much of a state to recall or communicate what I wanted to. It was good for my psych to see me in such a distressed state, he will understand how bad I've been since the last washout week and the last fortnight on the new med he suggested.

So, now I get to do it all again!! Hopefully this time won't be so excruciating, as we have a plan for sleep (which worked some what already last night) and I sort of know what to expect. It's potentially going to be tough, but I'll get there and reach out for help if I need it. You guys on this forum help a lot too!! Thank you for your support @NatureLover

Re: Changing meds

@WIP It's an excellent plan to print out what you want to say - I do that for my psych appointments too. I agree that it was good for your psych to see how distressed you've been.

Yes, the meds change might be tough - my last meds change was incredibly tough, and I think I'd have to potentially go into hospital if I was ever to do it again. We will be with you though, and you're sounding positive, which is great 🙂

@NatureLover

Y'day my psych did push for me to be admitted for this next washout period & med change, and I was going to go, but after finding out that I would be confined to my room for pretty much the whole day (due to covid reasons) I made the decision to stay home. At least here, I can go out for a walk, have my pup's company and appreciate the comforts of my home. It's going to be tough, but I'm trying to be positive. I've dipped a bit since this morning (I shouldn't watch the news, the increase in covid #s is so awful).

Just taking it hour by hour.....

Re: Changing meds

So glad to hear you got a little sleep @WIP It really does make the world of difference ?

I do hope this new med is better than the last one for you. I can very clearly remember how hard it was when I changed meds one time and the massive effect it had on me. I did not think I could feel any worse but I went downhill quickly and was lucky to survive - SI was extremely high at that time. The next med we tried was like a magic wand - it not only worked but pulled me up out of that darkness quite quickly ...I hope that happens for you too Hon

Re: Changing meds

I got a bit more sleep again last night too @Zoe7 @NatureLover @BPDSurvivor

It does make the world of difference.

I don't start the new med (not even sure what it'll be yet) till next Wednesday. I have to wash the most recent new one, out of my system first. Ahhh the joys of medication juggling.

Im trying to remain positive that it won't be as torturous as the past 3 - 4 weeks have been. And if it is bad, I've done it before and can do it again and ask for help along the way.

And soon I'll be like you, improving each day being much more stable with the other med combo. I hope I find my magic wand soon.

Happy Friday @Zoe7 . I hope you have a good day. x

Re: Changing meds

Hi @WIP , I was having trouble replying to you yesterday, the system wouldn't let me post or "support" for some reason. It seems to be behaving OK today, cross fingers...

I can understand - much nicer.

Hour by hour and trying to stay positive are good, well done 🙂

I'm also glad that you had improved sleep again last night, yay!

Re: Changing meds

Hi @NatureLover , nice to hear from you 😊

I had trouble yesterday too with some posts, but as you mentioned, things seem to be ok today.

Yeah, when I took Levi out y'day I was extra appreciative that I could, and this afternoon, I'll be able to watch the Blues play on Foxtel, which is something very simple, but does bring me a bit of happiness (even if they don't win! 😉)

Getting through the night with some consecutive hours of sleep is simply priceless.

I hope you have a good day!

The system was playing up for you too? Am relieved it's working today.

You're the only other Carlton supporter I know, apart from me! Lol.

@NatureLover

whoops, I pressed post too early.

There's not too many of us Carlton supporters around unfortunately. I really miss talking footy with my Dad - he was a Carlton tragic, well an AFL tragic to be honest. He was so knowledgeable & passionate about the Blues. Gee, I could tell you some stories.

I've joined the Carlton Cheer Squad group on FB, just to communicate with others in the lead up to and after a game. There's some real nutty fanatics in that group, but some who talk real sense & it's interesting to read what they have to say.

This years season is so higgledy piggledy, but at least us supporters have got a game to watch each week. The AFL, players, club officials etc, etc have just done an extraordinary job to keep the season alive.

Sorry, I've probably come across as a bit of a Carlton nut myself - I promise. I'm not. The footy is just one of few things that I still get enjoyment out of these days.
