Changing meds

Changing meds

Hi. I battled MDD & acute anxiety nearly all of my adult life. I've been on numerous different SSRIs, SRNIs, antipsychotics, tried rTMS & ECT. Am addicted to a benzo for my anxiety.

I am in the process of swapping out from a SRNI to a MAOI and the wash out period is hell. I really don't think I'm going to make it. This is the darkest place I have ever been.
I have no family support, honestly no friends, not able to work & are completely isolated.

i don't feel my medical team actually care much anymore, they are overwhelmed by new clients because of covid.

i hardly sleep, but the last thing in my mind before I do, is how much I want to die. It's the first thought of the day when I wake up.

what if this new medication doesn't work either??

Hey @WIP ,

How's everything? I can see you're soldiering on. Now I know where Levi gets it from!

I don't qualify for NDIS. Even when I was in a really bad state, my access request was rejected. I now know how to better gather evidence to submit another request, but now I wouldn't qualify. Perhaps I could if I pushed it, but I'd rather the funding go to others.

@WIP , I thought you have been seeing a psychologist? It seems you go to a different one all the time? They are definitely different to counsellors. I hope you find a psychologist you like and stay with them. It's so hard starting with new psychologists. I used to do that, but now that I've found a good one, I'm sticking to him even if it does cost me.

Ive just been looking at DBT clinics to see whether I can attend group sessions. Unfortunately, there are none in my area. My only option is to go for DBT online. I think I'm really craving human connection. I have been isolated for so long, trapped by my BPD. I'm ready to spread my wings! I think COVID has also caused me to evaluate my need for socialisation.

Wave to everyone else here too! @Appleblossom @Anastasia @Eve7 @Maggie

When I went into hospital @WIP @I was on an antipsychotic that made me really made sick. All I did was sleep and vomit. Pdoc tried it twice but I had the same awful reaction.

Now I’m having depot so wait and see what happens. Not nice.

Re: Changing meds

Hi @BPDSurvivor

Im doing so, so. Soldiering on as you say.

I see a male psychiatrist, who I'm not the wrapped in and went and saw a different female psychiatrist at the same hospital - it took 3 months to get into her. I thought she was great, but looked at the appointment as a 2nd opinion and directed me to keep seeing the male, as we're in the middle of med changes. Which made sense. I'd prepared 'history' notes for her, which included my medication and ideas going forward.

I was only able to find a recommended psychologist a few weeks ago. Everyone I tried wasn't taking on new clients. Anyway, I see this lady on the 7th. I hope we get along ok. It has been very hit and miss with psychologists, so I'm crossing my fingers things work out with this one.

I know what you mean with the need for face to face communication/connection - this covid lockdown has definately made my depression & anxiety worse.

I hope you get to attend a DBT class online if that's what you decide to do. xx

Re: Changing meds

Argh.... @WIP , that makes more sense. So really, it's only been two psychiatrists and one psychologist.

I hope it'll be a good fit. Psychologists can either make or break you. My current psychologist is excellent, but I remember it took at least 6 months to warm to him. I absolutely disliked him at first and did not want to see him again. I'm glad I stuck to him because he has helped me immensely. What I'm trying to say is, it may take time to get best out of a therapist.

Have a great day of new awakenings everybody!

Re: Changing meds

Yes, my previous psychologist, who I saw for the first 6 months of this year totally broke me. I still hear her voice in my head sometimes repeating the inappropriate things she said to me. Turns out she was a Counsellor, and didn't have the extra training to be a psychologist.

This new lady is a clinical psychologist with extra

training and experience. Her bio on their website sounds really good.
Im prepared to give it a few sessions before we really get to understand each other. I'm going to be a challenge for her I think 😉

Re: Changing meds

Quals are only part of it. There has to be enough of a fit and intention to work in the therapist. They may have to look at their own blocks to understanding and rapport, or research to find interventions that actually suit the person in the room. Its not only the client that has to do the work. I have 2 relatively recent x Cert 4s one in Training and Assessment and one in Counselling from VIc Uni. Lots of bits of paper. I in the 1980s I did a year of psychoanalysis and social theory in 3rd year and 100 hours of psychodrama director training after I graduated. Anyway thats my excuse justifying my rants and raves ... lol ... hope I can improve things.

Hope you all do well. I am actually giving psychology a bit of a break at the moment and having difficulty getting proper communication from my psychiatrist. I try really hard, but somehow I am often in the too hard basket.

I thought I would raise the nutter comment with my support wkrs boss. I am so strongly wired anti dobber cos of the childrens homes, but it is my new challenge. To speak up. We did silence a lot.

Have a good day.

Good Morning @Emelia8 👋

Im so, so this morning. Thanks for asking. Another bad nights sleep with upsetting dreams about hurtful past experiences.

More importantly, how are you going?
