Changing meds

Changing meds

Hi. I battled MDD & acute anxiety nearly all of my adult life. I've been on numerous different SSRIs, SRNIs, antipsychotics, tried rTMS & ECT. Am addicted to a benzo for my anxiety.

I am in the process of swapping out from a SRNI to a MAOI and the wash out period is hell. I really don't think I'm going to make it. This is the darkest place I have ever been.
I have no family support, honestly no friends, not able to work & are completely isolated.

i don't feel my medical team actually care much anymore, they are overwhelmed by new clients because of covid.

i hardly sleep, but the last thing in my mind before I do, is how much I want to die. It's the first thought of the day when I wake up.

what if this new medication doesn't work either??

Hi @NatureLover

Thanks for checking in with me, that's really lovely and thoughtful of you. I feel so very alone, so it's nice to hear from you.

I had an appointment with a new psychiatrist y'day afternoon. A very expensive appointment. Nevertheless, it went well and she really 'listened' to me - which I haven't felt in such a long while. The notes on my MH history that I sent through prior to the appt really helped. For the time

being, she'd prefer me to keep seeing my existing psychiatrist (they practice out of the same hospital), however she is sending through her recommendation to him on augmentation medication moving forward, which we decided upon together.

I really need to find a psychologist too, and she recommended a clinic. A lot of them aren't taking on new clients, as they are just so busy due to covid.

I still feel very depressed and struggle through my days. I've only been on this new antidepressant for 3 weeks, so it could still be a couple of weeks till I start to feel a bit better on it. Hopefully I do.

Thanks again for your care and concern.

I hope you are doing ok 😊

Oh @WIP , I'm really glad that your appointment went so well, and you felt listened to! 🙂 Also that your notes were taken into account, and you were able to decide together on an augmentation med. All that sounds really positive. 🙂

That's good also to have a recommendation for a psychology clinic...even if it takes a while to get into.

I'm sorry you're still feeling so alone... 😞

I am also holding out hope that you will get some good improvement from it. I've heard 6 weeks for full effects...

Sending you a big hug @WIP 🙂

Thanks for the big hug @NatureLover

Sending one back to you 😊

How has your day been?

Thank you for the hug back, @WIP 🙂

My day's been OK, thanks - I do much better when I can get out for the 1 hour's walk that we're allowed. Normally I like to be outside much more then that, but at least it wasn't raining today, yay!

I hope your evening and night are OK...

Re: Changing meds

I'm glad you've had an ok day @NatureLover .
I agree, it is much better when we can get out for our allowed hour of exercise. There wasn't much of a breeze today, so the sun felt warmer.

I've dipped like I usually do late adternoon, early evening. I'm not tired, but get anxious and edgy. Start to worry more about everything and become unsettled.
Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy my favourite tv show that's on tonight.

How has the rest of your day been? Anything planned for your evening?

Re: Changing meds

My evenings tend to go downhill a bit like yours, @WIP ...everything looks bleaker. So I mostly take it easy in the evenings. I don't have a TV as I can't cope with the noise and conflict on it, but I like to read and go to bed early.

I hope you can enjoy your favourite TV show 🙂

Re: Changing meds

I guess we can tend to go downhill of an evening because our brain starts to slow down from being busy all day....maybe, I don't know really @NatureLover I just know it's annoying and I wish it didn't happen.

I could cope without a tv, but can understand about all the 'conflict' you mentioned.

I hope you enjoy your evening and have a restful night. 😊

Hi, I read on the Good Morning thread that you have your regular psychiatrist appointment this morning, for a meds review...thinking of you and hoping it goes well, @WIP ...

Re: Changing meds

Hi @NatureLover , how has your day been?

The appt went ok. Staying on the same dose of new med for 2 weeks, and will reassess then when I see him. May be bumped up again, or a new one introduced as augmentation.

He wants me to lower my anti anxiety Benzo. Thankfully, he's suggested a very slow taper. I take this to sleep also, so I'm bit worried about lowering the night time dose, as I can't fall asleep without it. I'll just have to see how I go.

I emailed a couple of more psychologists this afternoon too. Someone who is taking on new clients has to come up soon....surely. I guess all the good ones are busy for the right reason.
