Changing meds

Changing meds

Hi. I battled MDD & acute anxiety nearly all of my adult life. I've been on numerous different SSRIs, SRNIs, antipsychotics, tried rTMS & ECT. Am addicted to a benzo for my anxiety.

I am in the process of swapping out from a SRNI to a MAOI and the wash out period is hell. I really don't think I'm going to make it. This is the darkest place I have ever been.
I have no family support, honestly no friends, not able to work & are completely isolated.

i don't feel my medical team actually care much anymore, they are overwhelmed by new clients because of covid.

i hardly sleep, but the last thing in my mind before I do, is how much I want to die. It's the first thought of the day when I wake up.

what if this new medication doesn't work either??

Re: Changing meds

Thanks @Anastasia

I have no one. Loneliness and the depression are slowly killing me. I have no hope.

Oh sweetheart I'm so sorry you feel that way. Its such a :pile_of_poo: cycle. You need to meet people but the depression and bl00dy covid gets in the way. I so hear you. If there was a way to snap my fingers and be there I would. I'm here to listen in the hope it helps a little. Can you tell me one good thing that's happened today, try to think L. My days have been :pile_of_poo: but one good thing for me is I found a new support for my boy today. Its been bl00dy hard and I have had everything against me but I found him and he sounds perfect. The rest of the day, well it was :pile_of_poo:

What's yours?

Re: Changing meds

I managed to drag myself to the kitchen and made risotto, I brought you a bowl @WIP ❣️

Re: Changing meds

I had hit after hit after hit today @Anastasia

Id rather not go into all details, as I'll start bawling again.

Only good thing is that I've survived another :pile_of_poo: day. I honestly don't know how much more torture I can go through alone.

Re: Changing meds

Thank you @Anastasia & thanks for the risotto.

I'm running out of money very quickly to keep seeing these specialists. Saw a new one today - because my new pdoc insisted I go (just to get a script to help me not drink, which he could have written) cost $380.

There is a bed for me in hospital next week,

but my excess payment that I thought was covered till 30/6, actually expires 2 days before admission date - another $500 I need to come up with. Then ongoing with this new addiction specialist, to get scripts & follow up

with my psychiatrist fortnightly to get scripts to taper off the anti anxiety meds - $150 a visit each.

can't afford to be sick - I just want to give up. That's how I feel as soon as I wake up every morning.

The pain on my Mum's face every time I see her,

makes me feel like such a burden.. She's all I've got and I'm taking years off her life.

I have no hope & spend my days exhausted after an interrupted nights sleep, then crying for most of the day. There's no point!

Re: Changing meds

Yes they are a financial burden @WIP, it is difficult, it's annoying he wouldn't write it for you. I'm sorry about the excess.

I changed funds for that reason L. No excess, better cover and cheaper! Previous one I'd been with for 40 plus years just coz didn't realise could change and not loose coverage. Do some research hun. Might be worth it?

In response to: Re: Changing meds

Re: Changing meds

I honestly don't have the mental capacity to do the research @Anastasia

Do you mind me asking who you are with?

Mum is loaning me the excess for hospital admission, so I'm very lucky.

hanging on by a string here @Anastasia

New ADs aren't helping & I wake every morning so depressed and just wish it was night again, so I could be asleep.

Re: Changing meds

@WIP

I am with HCF now. Initially I called iselect and got the prices for others.

My old Bupa fund had waiting time between admissions, an excess each time, a co payment for each day stay more than 21 days and a charge for a private room!!!

And it was more expensive than the one I have now!

Now with mine there are no waiting times between admissions (so long as there is a bed) no excess, no co payment if the stay needs to be increased past 21 days.

HCF did all the changeover for me. The most important thing is to make sure that there is NO GAP in cover. The last thing you want. You will have waiting periods of the cover you move to increases.

Here's an example:

My previous cover did not cover for child birth

My new one does (no I don't need it) but I have the Top cover so it's automatically included. So if I wanted to use it there was a waiting period for me to be covered.

The reason for this is to avoid ppl that are already pregnant joining and utilising he policy. Does that make sense?

So anything you already have cover for now should be moved to new policy with NO GAP.

Hope that makes sense sweets?

Ask away if not. I have worked in Insurance in a past life x

Re: Changing meds

My current fund has no wait period, but annual $500 excess for top hospital cover (where psychiatric admissions are only included) - meaning you have to have top cover if you want psychiatric hospital cover.

I looked at HCF & their offer was the same.
Annual excess of $500, but as many admissions as you need, with no wait period.

Thanks @Anastasia
