Changing meds

Changing meds

Hi. I battled MDD & acute anxiety nearly all of my adult life. I've been on numerous different SSRIs, SRNIs, antipsychotics, tried rTMS & ECT. Am addicted to a benzo for my anxiety.

I am in the process of swapping out from a SRNI to a MAOI and the wash out period is hell. I really don't think I'm going to make it. This is the darkest place I have ever been.
I have no family support, honestly no friends, not able to work & are completely isolated.

i don't feel my medical team actually care much anymore, they are overwhelmed by new clients because of covid.

i hardly sleep, but the last thing in my mind before I do, is how much I want to die. It's the first thought of the day when I wake up.

what if this new medication doesn't work either??

Hi lovely people!

So, my pdoc appointment didn't go so well. I didn't 'break up' with him this week, as I have another appointment booked within before I can get into the new lady.

I explained to him how my trouble sleeping is really causing me distress and I'd like to try a sleeping tablet. He wouldn't have a bar of it, and insisted I increase the dose of the antipsychotic tablet i take of an evening to apparently help with falling asleep. He knows I hate taking this AP, as it makes me 'not feel right during the day' and actually doesn't help me fall asleep. I got emotional and had trouble calming down, so he sort of told me off.
But, I'm stuck increasing the dose of medication I don't want to take and won't help me sleep, and then feel worse during the day - until I see him in a fortnight.

Im tempted to go to a GP and ask for a sleeping tablet.

Not feeling very good about myself this afternoon

Hmmmmm @WIP

I am so sorry this happened. I am not at all surprised why you dont have confidence or want to see him anymore 😞 I would feel exactly the same way.

My boy takes AP meds - so trust me I HEAR YOU about them and the reasons why you dont want to increase.

I think going to your GP is worth a shot, shame that you are not being heard. I am so sorry. I want to put my warrior hat on and trudge in there with you. Perhaps take that visual with you when you see your GP, Id walk hot coals to see you get what you need irl dear L.

I guess on a positive note you are almost there. Almost with him in your rear view, thank goodness.

Here for you sweets xox

Hi @WIP

That sounds like a really tough situation to be in. I know how upsetting it is when you don't feel like you're being listened to by your doctor. I've been there too.

It is good that you have an appointment with a new doctor pretty soon. I hope it goes well for you.

Sending strength your way,

Re: Changing meds

Thanks @Eve7 I just have to keep reminding myself of that - it won't be much longer that I have to keep seeing him.

I'm just having so much trouble sleeping, that is having a real negative effect on my days and I start this DBT programme next week, I need to be alert and have my wits about me. Not have a foggy brain with eyes falling out of my face.

Re: Changing meds

I was not listened to, made to feel belitteded to, and not worthy @Anastasia I've been crying most of the afternoon since the appointment.

I've argued with him for months and months and months about taking the AP.

I have depression and anxiety. I've not bipolar, nor suffer schizophrenia and don't bloody understand why this particular AP is his drug of choice to be used as a sleeping aid and calming aid during the day (of which I need to keep increasing the dose for it to work for these issues). It makes me feel and think weird. It changes my personality. It makes me crave carbohydrates and has increased my cholesterol to just into a level where it needs to be monitored.

I have to see the GP later this week for a revised Mental Health Plan for the Psychologist, so I'm going to have an honest chat with her about what is going on. I need to sleep well to begin with, before I can even consider working on my anxiety and depression.

I'm so sad.

Re: Changing meds

Hi again @WIP

I'm so sorry you're going through this and that you were made to feel that way.

I understand your feelings about taking AP and I can feel your frustration and sadness.

I know it seems inescapable now but you sound like you're doing all the right things to improve the situation. I'm proud of you for persevering.

Again, sending lots of strength your way.

Re: Changing meds

I am frustrated for you @WIP

I couldn't agree more. I don't understand either. Honestly you changing from him is the best decision, I am confident that you will improve with the right Dr behind you. I am so sorry, I completely understand why you are so upset right now. I am angry that this has happened. I really wish I could actually do something to help. In the mean time I just want to remind you that you are pretty incredible to have endured his "care" for as long as you have, you are a much better person than me.

The future is looking exceptionally brighter with your new pdoc in sight. Holding your hand dear L, love you lots xox
