I spoke to my psychologist today about finding a job soon. It's been almost 2 years I've been on Workcover. And having little incincome increases my stress and depression. But the thought of going back into the workforce terrifies me. I've lost my confidence and fear failing or breaking down again. I spoke to my Workcover job search support worker today and suggested that maybe I start with a temp job. Something short and simple at first. Like data entry or filing for 2 days and then getting another temp role and another, until my confidence increases and I'm coping with a work routine. Has anyone else tried this? What is your experience of going back to work?
I can't recommend to you strongly enough that part time is the best way to go. I went back to work full time after 2 years away, it's been 14 months and I feel like I'm ruined. It feels like every single thing possible has been taken from me through this job, my body, my physical health, the gains I had made are gone. My mental health. Gone. Like when I finish up I will leave a whole part of me behind. I rushed in. I thought returning to work was half the battle, that I would feel much better than I did. Worth something. Important. This has been by far one of the worst decisions I have made. I should have started part time, started slowly built up to more hours etc. the days off give you time still to seek treatment and take care of yourself. Go to hard and you will break, no job is worth that

Re: Reentering the workforce
I agree with you @Blackclouds. I used to work part time due to sensitivities /allergies to perfunes, deodorant, aftershave, hand cream. You name it. So I worked 3 days and had 4 days to unload my toxic load. Takes days to get over being sick afted being exposed to perfunes. But I still need to work. But even 3 full days a week is scary. Thats why I thought start off with a two day temp job. Full time work would be certain to break me at this tine. So what are you planning to do now for work @darkcloud

Re: Reentering the workforce
@utopia i had to resign from my senior HR position when all my trouble started. I too am having trouble woth what to do. I could get a job back where i was tomorrow but know i wouldnt be there mentally
Im taking baby sreps, im doing some freelance writing and giving myself time. I want ti work but want to ensure i am mentally in the zone, as they say
I was the go to guy for everything where i worked for several years. My colleagues used to call me Gordon Gecko (michael douglas's character in wall street)
I am a looong way off that, but am working myself to be able to handle interviews etc
It will take time but my advice, and my gp says the same thing, move back in slowly
