5 Day Online Event! You Are Not Alone - Crisis Advice for Family, Friends & Carers

5 Day Online Event! You Are Not Alone - Crisis Advice for Family, Friends & Carers

From the 29th of June - Friday 3rd of July we will be running a 5 Day Carer Discussion Thread 💜

When someone close to you has suicidal thoughts or attempts suicide, it can be hard to respond to their needs whilst also looking after yourself. If you're affected by caring for loved ones in crisis - SANE will soon be releasing an incredible resource designed for you. You Are Not Alone is an upcoming online info hub created with the help of people who have been carers and know how tough it can be.

On the week we launch 'You Are Not Alone', we will be running a five day discussion for anyone who would like to be involved, unpacking the ins and outs of supporting loved ones with complex mental health, discussing access to community support as well as ongoing self-care strategies specifically for carers.

@Former-Member Will be online during business hours to post discussion points alongside our soon to be announced Community Guide co-hosts

How do I get involved
You Are Not Alone - Crisis Advice for Family, Friends & Carers will be text based, so no software needed. Refresh the page to keep up with the latest posts right here in this thread from the 29th of June. Bookmark this page to easily navigate back here from the 29th!

very true @Former-Member

carers just keep going and going , finding that balance is the key

you might start self care ok and then things happen and loved ones get sick or unwell

a couple of weekends a go we actually did this

ha ha it was totally wonderful @NatureLover , @FindingStrength , @Former-Member , have to do it again

Self-care is continually revisited when caring for loved ones with mental health challenges. The reason being is, there’s a vicarious and often undetected burnout that can occur when we don’t look after ourselves in the process of caring.

The burnout being undetected is scary. How can we detect it?

The YANA resource advises: "Ask your friends and family to also watch out for signs you need more support."

I have never thought of asking my friends and family to watch out for signs in me of burnout, or signs that I need more support. Generally, I'm reluctant to bother my friends too much with my problems. But I can see that it might be necessary in this instance.

Common signs of compassion fatigue include irritability, mental and physical exhaustion, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, and denial.
