What helps you feel safe?

What helps you feel safe?

I've recently realised that a lot of my anxiety & mental health issues stem from feeling unsafe within my own body/self due to past trauma.

I avoid so many things & my coping strategies aren't always helpful (constantly checking my heart rate etc, sitting all day because I'm scared to stand up/move, not going out, keeping food in my pockets, overly depending on others for reassurance)

So I'm looking for new ways to cope with this. What are some ways that help you to feel safe when you're struggling to believe it??

Avoiding things is an all to easy escape and be alone does not really help.

Do I state how I am feeling and ask for advice?

Something else that might help is mindfulness meditation - being in the present moment without judgement. With a lot of practice, it's possible to calm yourself down when you're upset by doing this. Being afraid is paralysing in itself - the litany of fear is useful to me.

I will not fear, fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear and allow it to pass through me, and turn the inner eye to follow its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing.
I remain.

I am feeling misunderstood, outed by loved ones, alone, sad, depressed and thinking what is life all about and is it worth such grief and sadness.

You're welcome @7fresias ..... 🌷

It sounds really tough for you at the moment, and those feelings are hard to sit with. Please keep taking steps to look after you with as much self-care as you can .... especially the little things, making sure we choose things we like in the everyday. It's only a small thing, but I started to paint my nails with colours that bring me joy. Getting enough sleep is important too .... coping tools for when others are not being caring enough. Think about how a best would care for you, and then do that for yourself ..... give yourself the time and the space you need ..... the forum member are here to listen, share tips and advice, and we care because we live it too.
