Please help

Please help

I wake up every morning feeling the same. No amount of sleep changes how I feel right now. I have been like this for almost 6 months. I have a long term history of depression. And suffering a severe relapse. My psychiatrist of almost 6 years not caring at all or finding me more of therapy. Only pushing drugs onto me. I have found help myself without him. I plan on getting rid of him. I was put on a psychologist waiting list for a long time but have an appointment on Monday. I took myself off the some medication because I can't express how I feel and just feel numb when I'm on them. He has me on a brutal combination. I'm back on them again. But I'm struggling every day. The family In my life are sick of me and my moods, they can't cope and are getting sick themselves from stress. I don't know what to do. I am very lost. my head feels muddled up every minute of the day. I am trying my best but it's not enough to keep me here. I'm scared of the future. I know I need to take control of my own health but I was blind to this doctor and he has ruined my life.

Re: Please help

@Decadian I have contacted the services in the past dating back to before May. They were reluctant to help because of my age. I was near the cut off by a few weeks and kept pushing me back and forth to one another. I have called lifeline but because I don't have an immediate plan to end my life they were reluctant to help. I called the mental health line when I was self harming but all they could offer is to go to a doctor in the morning to check out the injury, they didn't even talk to me to try and reduce the level of distress. Im trying my best and my family are sick of me. I need to find some peace but I'm not able to. The organisation who I am seeing at the moment have been very helpful but I'm struggling with my mind. I have no relief. Only when asleep and so I am using that as a coping tool.

Re: Please help

Hi Hope32. May I ask if you were referred through your Dr to this psychiatrist. If you were, there's no reason why you can't return to your Dr and tell him how you're feeling. Have you been monitored while on the medication. Every medication we take needs constant reviewing to see how we're coping. Often it needs adjusting to a stronger or lesser dosage. A psychologist will not be able to prescribe medication, Perhaps talking to a therapist might be beneficial rather than a psychologist. I would suggest you see your Dr for a review of the treatment you've been receiving before stopping the medication permanently.

Re: Please help

@pip

I have been back to the Dr who referd me. She was very rude to me and was reluctant to complete a mental health care plan for me to see a psychologist that I desperately need. I have been trying to make appointments with the psychiatrist to speak to him about my medication but he is constantly booked out and when i had an appointment I wasn't able to get out of bed. I'm not able to get out of bed. I can't do anything. My family are sick of me.

Re: Please help

Hi @Former-Member,

It sounds like you are going through a really tough time and feeling really alone, I was glad to read that you finally have an appointment with a psychologist on monday and that you consider the organisation that you are seeing now to be helpful.

what you were saying to Decadian about Lifeline being just for when you are at risk of self harm that is not supposed to be how it works (you may have had a bad experience) but they are supposed to be there for you to chat when you need to reduce your stress or other lines like

Beyond Blue 1300 224 636

SANE 1800 18 7263

Suicide Callback 1300 659 467 is for when you are not coping, if that is where you mind is Please call

you wrote "please help" as the heading, can you tell us more about how we can, ie were you looking for ideas about what else you can do to cope over the weekend? suggestions about what others do?

Re: Please help

Hi Hope32. I'm so sorry about how your Dr treated you. No Dr should ever treat anyone like that, ever. Try to contact lifeline, tell them you need help NOW. Ask them how you can get someone to see you to get you on a mental health care plan. I would also suggest telling lifeline how your Dr treated you when you begged for help. Perhaps phone the ambulance and ask to be taken to a hospital/care facility. When we are treated really badly, it's hard to keep asking for help. By phoning lifeline, that then makes them aware of how desperate you are. Often in those circumstances they will call an ambulance to get you to a hospital/care facility.

Re: Please help

Hi Hope32

It is wonderful that you have been able to express your difficulties on this forum. Please Help says it all. I undertand totally, Lifeline responds with a don't bother me attitude (probably the limited education of volunteers) and unfortunately mental health triage is now only geared to the most serious cases because of Federal Government funding reductions. It utterly sucks what you have gone through to try and obtain help.

Perhaps you may be able to consider another GP, one that will actually support you. I totally understand your situation from personal experience also.

I sincerely hope that the psychotherapist you are about to see is adept - the appointment is truly some light for going on and recovery.

Lotsa luv

Re: Please help

Hi Bast. Lifeline usually respond fairly quickly if they know the caller is genuine. They do get callers who 'test' them, so often when someone calls talking suicide, they will sometimes ask seemingly irrelevant questions, to gauge how genuine the caller is. Once they're satisfied (usually within a minute or two) they will then do everything in their power to get the help required. Beyond Blue also will help with trained counsellors who know how to ask the right questions. I have volunteered for both organizations and know how they work. Beyond Blue and lifeline often work together in these circumstances.
