The Anniversary

The Anniversary

It's 30 years today since my son took his own life in Juvenile Detention

I have been in Canberra on holidays for the last few days - flying home late this afternoon

It is been a good break - really great hotel - I saw the War Memorial - my reason for coming to Canberra

But this morning I woke up with a feeling of utter desolation - I cannot describe the despair I felt - mostly for the waste of a young life that was so troubled and dark - I can't imagine how he felt

Although I have shadowy moments on such dates - and sometimes feel I did not do enough - I know I did far more than was every required - and much of it after he died when I became active for improvements to be made in DHS and Juvenile Detention

I spent 10 years of my life doing this

But still - tose shadows linger - but I know I have come such a long way in my life-time - and I did not need to come this way

I'm glad I did - and my thanks to many members in this community who have been so helpful these last months - I am so glad I found this website

Re: The Anniversary

@Decadian. I also love David Attenborough. His doco's are brilliant.
Sorry to hear about your sinuses. Airplane travel is a great place to pick up germs and it's been an emotional week for you.
I hope you are feeling better by the weekend. Take care.

Re: The Anniversary

Thanks @utopia@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope - anyone else I have missed

I slept for hours - I remember I had something to ease sinus pressure and for a while I didn't feel so giddy - and tonight I just hope I can get back to sleep

I don't think I have sinusitis - that could happen if I wasn't clearing them with everything I have to hand

But I get sinus pressure - one of my frontal sinuses is abnormally small and doesn't drain - being in the presurised cabin of a plane certainly contributed to this - as well as several days of walking in and out of an air-conditioned building and in the cold air wouldn't have helped

Tomorrow I am seeing my doctor - I don't think he can give many anything else to help - but if I need antibiotics he will give me a script - I don't like taking them

And they do say that the physicain who treats themself has a foot for a patient - it is equally true that the patient that treats themself has a fool for a physician - so I will take the doctor's advice

And yes @utopia - aeroplanes are great place to pick up germs - and I have been feeling under a lot of stress lately - and put them together and I have an untidy unit and I am tired out - but still able to handle all of this

But it is taking it out of me - I don't know about this computer - I can take it down and clear it out again but it is giving up on me - but for now it can wait

How are you feeling now @Decadian? Hope the sinuses have cleared and you have not picked up a bug. How are you coping after last weeks anniversary?
Sending you my best wishes

Re: The Anniversary

Hi @utopia@Former-Member

I think I am over the anniversary - still I know that my memories can get out of the woodwork at times and I can go down into a pile of damp tissues - too much stress will do this

I told the doctor about my sinus pressure yesterday - and he agreed that aeroplanes are a great place for bugs - and we are breathing recycled air after all -

This occurs in big hospitals - imagine breathing up bugs in an aeroplane and multiply the germs and the size of the environment - aw sheesh - things can always get worse - and the doctor said it is worse when people don't fly often - the last time I went away was last October - when I flew a short flight to a different small city - that was in Spring

Today I feel a lot better - I slept so long last night - I woke up too late to get to the pharmacy where I left most of my medication while I was away - and it is cold with showers here today

But for anyone - everyone - I invested in good shoes - I can walk further and I am encouraged to walk - but not in today's weather

Re: The Anniversary

Im glad you are feeling a bit brighter @Decadian. Pity you missed the pharmacy. Do you have any medications at home?
I also overslept and missed the library today. Not open again until Tuesday. And I'm almost half way through my last book. Bugger. Will have to spend my spare time doing housework. Yuk.

Re: The Anniversary

Thanks @utopia

I fell asleep watching TV - I hope I sleep tonight - I am hoping I recorded the Star Trek film tonight - I think I have some of it - but not all of it

But my sinuses feel better - and yes - I have enough medication for the weekend - I have enough until Tuesday

I have stacks of books - I love reading - I hope you can get to a newsagent tomorrow for a magazine at least - I need to read - I love reading

I hope you sleep well tonight
