Coping in the emergency department

Sometimes in mental health crisis's we end up in the emergency department. And that totally ok, being safe is important.

but how do we cope with our crisis while waiting?

What are some helpful strategies you have found useful during your stay in the department?

I often get stuck in the emergency room waiting room overnight due to the fact there is no mental health team 24/7 where I live. I'm really struggling being here tonight. My usual strategies of listening to music isn't really working so I'm wondering if there is anything else I should try. Please note my cocentration and attention is limited due to being in crisis. I feel trapped and stuck.

I wish lifeline text was 24/7 coz I could really use someone to talk to. Are there any other online options as I cant really call someone due to the nature of a waiting room.

@Jupiter I'm still in the waiting room of the emergency department. I'm having a major panic attack tbh. I'm bothering the staff and can't do this. Crisis team fcked off without seeing me saying they'll be back at 4. Seriously. I've been here since 10pm. Why am I even bothering. I'm sorry for this vent post. I am safe and I am staying to get help for once. I'm too distressed to really talk rn. Just had some meds.

I see everyone and hear you. I'm sorry I'm not replying to anyone today. I just don't have capacity. I'll update things later.

I appreciate the update @The-red-centaur and I'm glad to hear you are safe and are going to continue to stay to get help. You are worth it. I'm sorry to hear it has been so long.

I hope the medication helps and perhaps some music might also help to calm you right now?

I just saw psych reg, he's going to speak to his boss about a possible admission. If there are beds. Which is actually unlikely though.

I cried so much to him. I'm broke rn and don't know how to pick up the shards and glue it back together. I'll try though. I'm trying.

I am so proud of you for allowing yourself to be that vulnerable and how hard you are reaching out for help @The-red-centaur let's hope they can get you a bed. You are doing the very best you can right now and that's ok. I will be waiting with you my friend.
