Another day ...

Another day ...

Here I go again. I wake up every day feeling sick in the stomach about the day ahead.
People talk about life being too short and so wonderful but for me it's quite the opposite.
I've tried everything but nothing changes.
I'm 46 years of age and this has been going on my whole life, I'm exhausted with it all.

Re: Another day ...

I'm so glad you started this thread @marylouise because I needed to talk about the same thing. I manage to get out of bed and get my toddler ready and to daycare. It's SUCH a battle walking into his school and signing him in - I'm not sure why, but I dread it to the point of hating the process of saying hello to the teachers and feeling their eyes on my unkempt self. It keeps me up at night it's so bad.

Once I get home, I'm empty, aggitated and lost. It's like I don't know how to "do" life. I know I could clean, apply for a job, do all sorts of to-do-list tasks, but I feel paralysed. To be clear, I want to do these things very badly, but I literally am unable to complete many of them. I can do cleaning or laundry ok some days, but the brain function needed to apply for a job or do taxes is dreadfully absent. I used to love reading books, and now I can't keep up with the plots. I was not like this a year or so ago. I was in a well-paid professional role and "doing it all" complete with heels and a fresh face of makeup. I think I suck at life now. Most of my time is spent staring at the walls (literally). I can't seem to overcome it now matter how much mindfulness, therapy, walks, good meals, meds, etc. that I do. It feels really scary to feel like this. Like really scary. Like really really scary.

@marylouise and @Minimooga I should have mentioned that I'm sorry you are both feeling this way, but I am glad you are here. Thank you.

Re: Another day ...

Rejection is a big part of my life and has been a coomin thread throughout. This had lead to a low self esteem and lack of confidence. I do manage to put on a brave face most days but I'm very alone and lonely.keep telling my self to fake it until I make it but feel like I'm running out of steam and on a slippery slope.
My family don't want to know, I have a lot of money worries, I look terrible , I don't have a job and I'm very alone.

Re: Another day ...

Im sorry that you are all feeling this way yhough it us helpful for me to know that i am not alone. Im a shift worker with a toddler. Im overweight, unkempt, asexual thanks to antidepressants. The list goes on. I feel paralyzed. Most of my life i have been depressed to the point where i no longer want to be around but i never do anything about it. Im in my mid 30s now and i am beginnung to feel that its all diwnhill from here and my best years are over and i never got a chance to truly love life. It makes me sick when i think about how unhappy i have been my entire life when people ib third world countries would live to be me but it all feels so pointless and meaningless to me. I feel like a rat in a wheel constantly working, cleaning, feeding, bathing. I never get anywhere. Nothing ever changes. I need something to be passionate about. I thought motherhood would change my feelings of apathy but life feels more empty than ever because with a toddler and no family support i cant do the few things that did bring me joy like be spontaneous, look after my health, lazy sleep ins, getting immersed in a book etc. I havent read a book in over 2 years. I have a high needs toddler and he is sucking what little life i have out of me

Re: Another day ...

I completely understand how you feel. I think it's important for you to start with your own self care. Show your self the live that you show your kids. Have a shower, do your hair, put your make up on and get dressed before the kids. Try to love your self first ...

Re: Another day ...

Hi I work on mondays and this time last week I had bought a 375 vodka and had already started drinking now to get me through the day. I have severe depression and anxiety with panic attacks. Since last monday I have not had a drink and I am proud of myself. Its been tough but I hope I have hit my low point. Today will be tough with anxiety and panic attacks being around people but I accept that and it lessens my anxiety and negative feelings a little.

Re: Another day ...

Hi Riley
Alcohol has also been a problem for me. I have at times used it to self medicate but it defenitely makes matters worse for me. I'm not a chronic alcoholic but I would regularly drink a bottle of wine to my self. Ve been a bit bad with it lately which I know has lead to increased anxiety and depression. I'm day 2 now without a drink and defenitely not as bad as I have been. Hopefully you'll cope better at work now that you're not drinking.

Re: Another day ...

Thanks @marylouise I do feel better too with less anxiety. Sometimes we can only hang on through those tough times that seem to go on forever and believe the sun will come out and shine on us again.

Re: Another day ...

Well done @riley & @marylouise. Recognising that alcohol has a negative impact on our emotions is a great start. I'm 8 weeks 5 days alcohol free. I sleep better. My depression has almost gone and I have very little anxiety. At the same time as not drinking, I've done a lot of therapy work & be sure to do breathing exercises at least twice a day. I have a book / journal that has a list of my achievenents. Things like: I get my son to sport. I'm a caring friend. I got out of bed. I have family who love me. Big or small achievements - it doesn't matter. Can you write something nice about yourself? Can you repeat it? Do you believe it?
Well done on not drinking.
