Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

@Zoe7 I guess what I'm trying to say is I have done my rounds to make sure what I have heard in person just is backed up by others during phone calls to to certain organisations across Australia. I also have phone recordings of what happened in the mental health centre where I was treated. I also spoke to medical doctors in person that came full forth with their experiences of the system they working every day. So this isn't just a few people this is now many. I was shocked and couldn't believe what I was hearing and if I heard this from someone else for the first time I probably wouldn't believe it either. My frustration for the broken system we have today can sometimes be hard eating for people and I don't like to put people down, no one is perfect. I just have a hard time believing in two week short term study or a two month so called term study to say they are just better than placebo when ppl take them longer than that. And also placebo can be great the studies have also shown this. But then the medication starts to flatten out and you have to take more. Dr's mainly look at the 2 month study because they have been designed by drug companies that make money to publish them. Unfortunately they don't publish the ones that didn't work out because it looks better on paper. The proper long term studies get hidden in PubMed and out side of the journals and they are not good. That's where the disease kicks in. Many Dr's don't look at all the data because they don't have the time, it's the sad truth.

@krs

"There's no scientific evidence that mental disorders exist."

You said that earlier today. That's different to what you are saying now.

This is why I was confused.

Meds are not a silver bullet. I don't think they can be. You need to deal with mental health in many ways and meds are just one.

But there are more serious forms of it that need psychiatric help and medications. You said that there is no scientific evidence that mental health disorders exist so this is why I said what I said.

But no amount of psychotherapy is going to help somone with severe schizophrenia. It's important to say this.

Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

I have been on 2 types

SSRI and Atypical Anti psychotic

Three different types of SSRI I have been on and only one has been effective. I weened off my regular dosage as things around me got better.

MY psychiatrist also put me on Atypical anti psychotics in 2018 and since then I've been doing really well. I put that down to successes in lifestyle and changes I have made and not down to medications. Medications can't do that on their own. But they are simply part of a broader scheme used to help.

In the US the medical professionals are incentivized to prescribe drugs to patients as they get funding for it. In Australia that isn't the case. And no doctor of mine has ever told me that medications are useless. Even one GP told me that they only prescribe them because they work. Another GP had PTSD and used meds but also therapy as a form of treatment.

Behavioural adjustment and CBT, DBT, RAT and things like better sleep, exercise and diet have also helped.

Meds are essentially a way of staving off the worst. They tend to work best for people already in good positions (who have a supportive family, a home to live in) etc. No one can dispute that.

@MDT Shizophrenia is a completely made up concept it will take time to come to a realization. They say you must treat phycosis with medication but that's not true people don't always take medication. Have you ever heard of listening to voices and what they are doing in Finland, open dialogue is used without hardly ever using medication it's just there if absolutely necessary but in many it isn't and never say it must for life because it can take a few times. They don't like to use labels and the stigma that comes with them. It's all about how people are coping with there trauma and problems they have. This so called illness has never been found, if you think it has then where abouts in the brain does it come from?

@MDT psychotherapy does not work as well if your on the medication that prevents access to your true emotions, think about how they act on the brain and what they are essentially doing.

Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

@MDTI think I get where you are coming from.

I have seen people get better from "Schizophrenia" and people die from it ie be overmedicated), A lot does depend on how we use words. I have seen a person manage hospitalisations in Australian and America, be determined to get the best psychotherapy and lead a reasonable life. Not everybody is so lucky. He had access to more resources that the average person diagnosed with Schizophrenia.

@krsmentions Open Dialogue which seems a better approach than we have here. I was posting about the Scandinavian models for mental health when I first joined the forum.

This forum has admitted it accepts some finance from Pharma companies.

@Appleblossom Yes I spoke with someone over the phone from Sane Australia and they admitted some things to me. I hope things change, I like to use the term "so called schizophrenia" that I descovered from a mental health nurse clinician. There's also a yearly event in parts of Australia called Reawaken I plan on attending one day.

Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

@MDT I hope that you stumble across the truth one day before you get hurt I honestly care about people and I got tricked like many and have been finally been told the truth by people in the medical model. It is not essential, not anymore. They don't even use them first line in Sydney because talk therapy is better first choice then benzodiazepines and then antipsychotics and that's just in a month now. Years ago it was first and still is in places that can't fund it. Unfortunately most doctors are the delusional ones and that's big pharma. Your prescriber isn't going to tell you your medication is going to shorten your life they are the ones that read the book that tells them to treat, you see?

So I've wasted money and time on medications then have I ?

Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

@krs I know the medical model isn't the only one, but in my case my meds have given me my life back so I can focus on therapy. Don't dismis all meds as being bad.
